The pastor of a Texas megachurch has resigned amid allegations that he sexually abused a girl beginning when she was 12 years old. ABC News’ Rhiannon Ally reports.

    This is how churches operate. I don't know when people are finally going to put a stop to it. I've seen it too many times in churches I've attended. It doesn't matter if it's embezzlement or assault, the church will ALWAYS cover it up and not tell you they're sorry. In fact, they will gaslight you into believing that YOU need to be sorry for being angry and wanting justice.

    Pastors have lost the focus and respect for the pulpit. They’re too focused on growing their own following rather than Christ’s, making fashion statements with their expensive athletic shoes, pants, shirts, purses, Mr furley ascots, trucker hats, do social media posts while shirtless in a tub of water. They have lost respect and reverence for the God they preach about. Something is very very wrong with the church in America.

    f the church is non-denominational, the Pastor (and his family) OWN it. "Resign" just means he won't be preaching every Sunday. As the owner, money will NEVER stop flowing into his pockets – until he dies. OWNership provides for this BUSINESS to receive a religious tax exemption; tithes and offerings become property of the owner; sons and family members thru the generations will inherit the title of pastor, thus continuing the grift; being non-denominational, theological Seminary degrees are not required; there is NEVER a Denomination Church Board or Presbytery that oversees or restricts the Pastor's smallest whim; deacons are chosen for their loyalty to the pastor.

    I have just about seen it all when we talk about church shenanigans … Preachers embezzling their church; Preachers running off to Vegas with the Church Secretary; Preachers / Deacons / choir leaders – molesting youngsters, and so on, ad nauseam. Nothing, literally nothing, is surprising.

    BUT, there are some common factors in nearly ALL of these breaches of trust.

    The Church is almost always NON-DENOMINATIONAL. No denominational BOARD or PRESBYTERY for oversite.

    The Church, being non-denominational, is "owned" by the preacher and his extended family. IT IS A BUSINESS.

    Church real estate, land, buildings, personal property (planes, boats, vacation homes, club memberships, church "parsonage"), TITHES and OFFERINGS, are under total control (ownership/stewardship) of the preacher

    Deacons, Elders, ALL church employees, in the end, answer to the preacher

    Deacons and Elders, have no real power over the pastor (or his family). They must ALWAYS rubberstamp whatever the pastor does. If they question him (or his family), they are pushed out of the church.

    Spouses and children always end up on the payroll.

    When a pastor retires, a son takes his place and everything stays the same.

    Deacons and Elders are, in effect, bound to a non-disclosure. NEVER let the congregation know what goes / has gone on. They are complicit in the sins of the leaders.

    When caught with their pants down or their hand in the till, they ALWAYS (1) weep (2) "repent" (3) say they have changed (4) ask the congregation (who have been kept in the dark by the deacons) to forgive (5) retire or take a leave of absence – ALWAYS with a Golden Parachute.
