Two suspects, Tia Browne and Christopher Cheek, were arrested after stealing around $1300 worth of alcohol from an ABC store in Isle of Wight, Virginia. They led police on a 50-minute chase that resulted in the injury of two civilians. Browne was arrested at the Surry County line, while Cheek, who was a passenger in the car, jumped out and ran into the woods.
Christopher Cheek was involved in another incident on March 15 where he stole a vehicle and led police on a pursuit from Smithfield to Suffolk. The pursuit was terminated by police due to safety concerns, but Flock cameras captured the vehicle entering Isle of Wight County. Deputies then began a pursuit that ended in the Hardees parking lot, where Cheek was taken into custody by Isle of Wight Sheriff’s deputies.
Tia Browne is facing charges that include grand larceny, conspiracy to commit felony, felony evade and elude, and felony hit-and-run. Christopher Cheek has been charged with grand larceny, conspiracy to commit felony, obstruction of justice, and felony evade and elude, with additional charges from the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office pending confirmation.
The chase resulted in injuries to two civilians and significant damage as the suspects evaded police along South Church Street. The reckless actions of Browne and Cheek put themselves and others in danger, ultimately resulting in their arrest after a lengthy pursuit by law enforcement.
The surveillance footage and rapid police response allowed for the quick capture of Browne and Cheek, ensuring that they were apprehended and charged for their crimes. The community in Isle of Wight can rest assured that these suspects are no longer a threat, thanks to the efforts of local law enforcement to bring them to justice for their criminal actions.
