Dejaune Ludie Anderson, a mother wanted by Indiana police since her 5-year-old son’s body was found in a suitcase in 2022, was arrested in Los Angeles last week. Anderson is accused of killing her son, Cairo Ammar Jordan, whose remains were discovered in Washington County, Indiana. An arrest warrant for murder, neglect of a dependent resulting in death, and obstruction of justice was issued for Anderson in October 2022, but she managed to avoid arrest for over a year.
A concerned citizen provided information that led authorities to Anderson in Arcadia, California, as she was attempting to board a train on March 14. Anderson is currently being held without bail in Los Angeles and has waived extradition. The Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office represented her during the court appearance, but it is unclear if she has obtained other legal representation.
The suitcase containing Cairo’s body had a distinctive Las Vegas design and was discovered by a man foraging for mushrooms in a wooded area. An autopsy revealed that the child died from an electrolyte imbalance, likely caused by viral gastroenteritis, an inflammation of the stomach and intestines resulting in vomiting and diarrhea. Another woman, Dawn Elaine Coleman, from Shreveport, Louisiana, was arrested in San Francisco in connection with Cairo’s death and pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder, receiving a 30-year sentence with five years suspended to probation.
Anderson’s arrest brings closure to the tragic case of Cairo’s death, providing justice for the young child who lost his life in such a senseless manner. The community can now find solace in knowing that Anderson is in custody and will face the consequences of her alleged actions. The involvement of multiple agencies and the assistance of concerned citizens played a crucial role in bringing Anderson to justice, highlighting the importance of collaboration in solving criminal cases and holding perpetrators accountable for their crimes.
While the details surrounding Cairo’s death are heartbreaking and tragic, it is important to remember that justice has been served in this case. Anderson’s arrest and impending return to Indiana for trial are a step towards ensuring that she is held accountable for her actions. The resolution of this case serves as a reminder of the importance of diligence and cooperation among law enforcement agencies and community members in bringing closure to such devastating incidents and seeking justice for the victims involved.
