Richard Basson shot Carrie Slater in the head in Long Clawson, Leicestershire. Basson initially lied to officers, claiming he had stabbed Slater with a pool cue after she threatened him with a carving knife. However, officers later discovered that he had shot her in the forehead. Slater was placed on life support but died two days after the attack. Basson showed erratic behavior during his arrest, asking for a cigarette lighter and eventually admitting to causing her injuries. He was convicted of murder and is awaiting sentencing at Leicester Crown Court.
Basson had made a 999 call reporting an incident at his home before the officers arrived. He claimed that Slater had been stabbed in the face with a pool cue and did not mention the gun he used to shoot her. Paramedics found Slater with a significant head injury and rushed her to the hospital, where scans revealed it was a gunshot wound. Officers also found a gun and ammunition in the back garden of the bungalow during a search. Basson has not shown any remorse for his actions, according to Leicestershire Constabulary.
Detective Inspector Emma Matts, who led the investigation, expressed her condolences to Slater’s family and described their struggles to come to terms with her death. She highlighted Basson’s lack of explanation or remorse for killing someone he claimed to love. The bodycam footage captured the moments after Basson killed Slater, showing his erratic behavior and refusal to cooperate with officers. Basson’s behavior, particularly his request for a cigarette lighter, was shared by police to provide insight into the case.
The 999 call made by Basson and the subsequent interactions with officers, as well as the discovery of the gun and ammunition, were presented as evidence during the murder trial. Basson’s claim of self-defense was contradicted by the discovery of the gunshot wound. The transcript of the call revealed Basson’s attempt to downplay his actions, suggesting he only meant to jab at Slater with the pool cue. The call and the subsequent actions by officers and medical staff revealed the true extent of Basson’s violence.
Despite being convicted of murder, Basson has not shown remorse or provided any explanation for his actions. The lack of closure for Slater’s family and loved ones adds to their grief and struggle to understand why she was killed. The investigation revealed a pattern of deception and violence perpetrated by Basson, who showed no concern for the consequences of his actions. Slater’s tragic death serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of domestic violence and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their crimes. The bodycam footage and 999 call transcripts provide a chilling glimpse into the events leading up to and following Slater’s murder.

I cant believe some people are actually defending the murderers shocking request. Unbelievable.
Seriously? Defending murderers? Thats messed up. People need to have some common sense and decency. No excuses for heinous acts. Those defending them are just as guilty in my book. Unbelievable.
I think the murderers request shows a human side we often overlook.
I disagree. The fact that a murderer has a request doesnt change the severity of their actions. Showing a human side doesnt excuse the harm theyve caused. Lets not forget the victims who can no longer speak for themselves.
I cant believe people are defending him! Hes a murderer, end of story.
I think the murderers request shows a twisted sense of entitlement. Shocking, really.
Are we surprised by the audacity of murderers these days? They think they deserve special treatment even after taking a life. Sickening, but sadly not shocking in todays world.
I cant believe he had the audacity to ask for a snack after killing someone.
I think the murderers request shows a twisted sense of entitlement. What do you all think?
I totally agree with you. Its sickening to see murderers demanding anything, let alone feeling entitled. They gave up their right to make requests when they chose to take someone elses life. Justice should be served, not their entitled whims.
How can someone be so cold-hearted? Unbelievable request after committing a murder!
Seriously, its mind-boggling how some people lack any sense of accountability or remorse. Asking for favors after committing such a heinous act is beyond comprehension. Some people truly have no shame.
This murderers request raises questions about their mindset. What was their motive?
Do you think the murderers request was genuine or just a ploy?
Can you believe the audacity of the murderers request after the shooting? Unbelievable!
Can you believe the nerve of that guy? Unbelievable request after murder.
Isnt it disturbing how the murderer had the audacity to make a request after such a heinous act?
Its sickening how entitled criminals can be, thinking they have any right to make requests after committing such atrocities. They deserve no sympathy or consideration. Justice should be swift and harsh for those who show no remorse for their actions.
