Lebanon may be one of the most liberal Arab countries but this tolerance does not extend to homosexuals. Now, Beirut’s gay community is fighting back.

“There’s no doubt that homosexuality is the idea of Satan,” proclaims an Imam. Gay people are believed to be possessed by demons and homosexuality can still lead to a year in jail. But a small revolution is slowly taking place. Helem, the Arab world’s first public gay rights organisation, is fighting to end the discrimination.

Most, if not all Middle Eastern/Muslim majority countries have a long and accepted history of pederasty. Why this, which is child sexual abuse, is accepted but contact between two consenting adults isn't is just crazy.

I've noticed that Lebanese people in Lebanon are much more broad minded than the Lebanese families who've migrated to Australia.

live and let live …lebanon is an open country that respects all people.

  • @user-vf4pb9dt1r June 22, 2024

As long as it's a consenting adult, I just can't understand why does a straight man worry about where another man is putting his penis, it's beyond my comprehension.

  • @p.rabbitt4914 June 22, 2024

I never knew it was this hard in Lebanon. If it's this bad here, the rest of the middle east is like hell on Earth for the people who love the same gender. I hope it gets better. Praying for peace.
