Can Our Constitution Survive the Trump Conviction?

Legal expert Ilya Shapiro breaks down why the Trump conviction, driven by political motivations and weak legal foundations, is a disaster for the rule of law. Despite District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s aggressive stance, the case hinges on minor technicalities with unclear connections to underlying criminal activity. Shapiro explains why it has more in common with Soviet-style justice than the classic “Al Capone” prosecution strategy and how politicized prosecutions erode trust in American institutions.

Take a drink every time they admit he is, actually, guilty.

You'll be drunk enough to think that it makes any sense whatsoever when they then go on and compare the conviction of the guilty party to the soviet union…or when they call America a banana republic.

The highest paid legal defense that money can buy defended a man that has multiple, separate, billion dollar media propaganda arms spinning his talking points 24-7. A random jury unanimously found that he is guilty of the things that even those extremely biased talking heads have to admit he's guilty of.

I'm a new audience member. Centrist. I align closely with Sam Harris on most topics. I abhor identity politics.

You're losing me. The hyperbole might as well be a giant "I'm not reasonable" name tag.

Trump sentenced to 20 years for a speeding ticket. — some Democrat somewhere in the not-so-distant future.

    The simple answer is no…

If a president’s constitutional rights are violated by our courts. The constitution is dead, so is all rule of law.

If the illegal, unconstitutional ruling stands this country is completely doomed.

Hillary paid for the Steele dossier with campaign money… Wrote it off as a legal expense. Literally treason! She received a small fine..

Yes, people are above the law as Hillary, Obama and Biden continue to prove.

Do we want a moral leader? We want someone who is not blatantly criminal… as in someone who is knowingly, and regularly, engaged in criminal activities. However, we had a moral president with Jimmy Carter whose morality handcuffed him. The best leaders seem to often have a slightly shady cast to them, but it’s not the person, but the POLICIES that matter most. Also, follow the money! How many presidents leave office to become incredibly wealthy as a result of their office? There are politicians and there are statesmen. Politicians are self-serving… statesmen (first and foremost) do their best to serve the people. More than anything, vote on policies that favor the average American instead of taking care of everyone else but our own. This is how everyone benefits! Is Trump a moral man? No… he’s more the kind of man who is riddled with mistakes. However, if you go back to his comments from the 80s and 90s he’s saying the same things then as he is now… something that CANNOT be said for Biden, Newsom, and the like who constantly test the political winds to see which popular opinions to back for political expediency! GREAT VIDEO!

  • All these convictions will be overturned upon appeal. Of course, it will be too late for the election.

The enemy is no longer at the gates.

All the lawyers, judges that are in on this gross miscarriage of justice need to go to prison. It is all tick tack Banana Dictatorship. The reason the system has no trust is because political activism is above the rule of law. Republic and Democracy are under threat.

    LBJ ????????

  • @stillraven9415 June 21, 2024

All this is insane and that is why someone is funding and directing these people to do these things. Stir up trouble then when it blows up step in and take control with everyone's blessing. It is those people that you need to be looking for.

  • @mustang607 June 21, 2024

It seems to me with enough power and money and ill intent, a group can force nearly any individual through struggle sessions after struggle sessions of tactical lawfare.

  • @mustang607 June 21, 2024

The republic has been going bananas.

  • @lprice5583 June 21, 2024

Heaven forbid a district attorney campaign to hold a known criminal accountable. Christians of a certain bend will throw sand in their own eyes to avoid seeing trumps corruption.

  • @mikepoulin3020 June 21, 2024

The Constitution has been trashed since the civil war…

  • @Rickpa June 21, 2024

Sounds like this conviction is a Pyrrhic victory.

  • @laserbeam-fx9qv June 21, 2024

The problem I have with "hush money trial" is no one can explain how Trump using his own money to pay for a NDA is a crime. As I understand it Congress has used millions of taxpayer dollars to pay off accusers and somehow that's legal, yet what Trump did was a crime… I would believe it maybe it maybe if he had used campaign money, but that didn't happen. Secondly the statue of limitations had already expired making this a political witch hunt.

There really is not other crediable cases against Trump as your guest alluded. I pride myself in reading every motion that has been submitted in all the cases against Trump and avoiding the opinions of talking heads. In addition to other credientials, I can also sit for the CPA exam any time I feel like it and there is no accounting issues that I have been able to discern in Trump's bookkeeping.

  • @upgrade1015 June 21, 2024

Trump was Paying his bills. I seem to remember Hillary Clinton doing the same thing with the Steele dossier. Russia collusion remember that? Trump oddly was charged 32 times for one payment. For checks written overtime. Trump is for the American people, doesn’t want wars, or hyper inflation, secure borders. The left just want to hate Trump. Doesn’t that strike you as odd.

  • @petermonck5448 June 21, 2024

    Trump is a felon.

  • @user-pj5ub5cp9k June 21, 2024

Michael Cohen went to prison for the same crime Trump was convicted of.

  • @cremebrulee4759 June 21, 2024

Oh, please. He was clearly guilty.
