Chickenpox Outbreak in Guyana Prison Service Appears to be Under Control

The Guyana Prison Service has reported that the recent outbreak of Chicken Pox at the Lusignan Prison has been contained, with no new cases detected in recent testing. Of the 25 reported infections, seven have recovered. Surveillance and screening of current and new inmates are ongoing, with immediate isolation of anyone suspected of being infected. The Prison Administration, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, is conducting an education and hygiene campaign to prevent the spread of the virus and identify symptoms.

A vaccination drive has also been initiated at the prison, with Director of Prisons, Nicklon Elliot, stating that the exercise will continue over the next few days to ensure that all inmates, new admissions, and staff are vaccinated and protected from the virus.
