Team CIBC volunteered at the site of a new skills training center being established by the Bethel Baptist Church in Half Way Tree. They participated in the “Adopt a Cause” mission by painting walls and furniture, trimming trees, planting flowers, and beautifying the space surrounding the center. The center is located near Bethel’s Hope Centre, which provides meals and other services to homeless individuals in the community. The skills training center aims to offer programs for household workers, hotel workers, landscaping, carpentry, and plumbing, with the goal of helping people gain skills and find employment opportunities.
Rev. Glenroy Lalor, Pastor of the Bethel Baptist Church, expressed gratitude to the CIBC team for their assistance in establishing the skills training center. He explained that the Hope Centre, in collaboration with the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation, currently provides meals and hygiene facilities to homeless individuals. The new skills training center represents phase two of the development, with plans to offer certification programs and employment assistance to participants. Future phases will include the rebuilding of a Transition House to provide facilities for individuals in need of transitional support.
Nigel Holness, Managing Director of CIBC, commended the work being done at the HOPE Centre and expressed the bank’s gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the Skills Training Centre. Through their Adopt a Cause Program, CIBC employees support over 100 causes throughout the Caribbean each year, focusing on critical community needs such as education programs, school refurbishments, and community space improvements. Holness emphasized the importance of giving back to the community and the enjoyment that comes from supporting meaningful causes.
The partnership between CIBC and the Bethel Baptist Church reflects a shared commitment to serving the community and providing opportunities for skills development and empowerment. The skills training center will offer valuable programs for individuals seeking to improve their employment prospects and gain certifications in various fields. The establishment of the center represents a significant step towards supporting the local community and providing resources for individuals in need of assistance. The collaborative efforts of the CIBC team and the church demonstrate the positive impact that can be achieved through community partnerships and volunteer initiatives.
Overall, the volunteer work carried out by Team CIBC at the skills training center highlights the importance of corporate social responsibility and community engagement. By supporting initiatives like the Adopt a Cause Program, CIBC employees are able to make a meaningful impact on communities in need and contribute to positive social change. The dedication of the CIBC team to volunteer their time and expertise for the benefit of others showcases the spirit of generosity and compassion that is essential for building stronger, more resilient communities.
