Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua gang has raised concerns in the United States, prompting a request from federal lawmakers to declare it a transnational criminal organization. Despite some reports suggesting potential members in the US, law enforcement agencies have not found any significant presence of the group. The few crimes attributed to supposed Tren de Aragua members in the US had no clear connections to the gang’s leadership in Venezuela.

Information regarding Tren de Aragua’s presence in the US is limited and vague, with reports of arrests and apprehensions by Border Patrol and ICE. However, the FBI has stated that they do not have any public cases involving the gang. The gang’s expansion into other South American countries has been driven by migrant flows, but it faces barriers to establishing operations in the US, such as the dominance of Mexican groups in human smuggling and trafficking routes along the US-Mexico border.

The Republican lawmakers’ letter accusing Tren de Aragua of various crimes, including the rape of multiple children, did not have any substantiated reports to corroborate these claims.
