Sgt. Delia Reyes of the Arvin Police Department was shocked when authorities informed her that armored vests belonging to the department were found during a raid of her boyfriend’s home. Despite believing he was not involved in drug trafficking, Reyes began to question her boyfriend’s character and his possible involvement in criminal activity. Reyes denied any knowledge of her boyfriend’s alleged drug trafficking activities, and also claimed that no illegal items would be found in her home. However, authorities found a plate in her bedroom with cocaine residue, and Reyes admitted to using cocaine a week or two prior. Reyes is facing charges of drug possession while armed with a loaded gun, along with two misdemeanor drug offenses.
Reyes’ boyfriend, Francisco Javier Beltran, is facing federal charges of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl. During the investigation, authorities seized 5 pounds of methamphetamine, 1 kilogram of heroin, and 1,400 counterfeit hydrocodone pills containing fentanyl. A third person, DeAngelo Sanchez, who rented a room from Reyes, resigned from his job as a Bakersfield police officer after suspected steroids were found in his bedroom. Sanchez is charged with two misdemeanor drug offenses and has a pretrial conference scheduled for June.
Authorities found two handguns and the department’s armored vests in Beltran’s home, with one gun belonging to Reyes. They later went to Reyes’ home where she denied giving Beltran the vests and initially said he wouldn’t have taken them from her patrol vehicle. However, Reyes later admitted that Beltran hadn’t returned her gun after taking it to get measurements for the handgrip. She trusted him and did not report the gun as stolen. Reyes expressed disbelief at Beltran’s actions, stating that she did not know he would betray her.
In Sanchez’s bedroom, authorities found hypodermic needles, anabolic steroids, injectable testosterone, and human growth hormone. Sanchez claimed to have obtained the testosterone with a prescription from his primary doctor, and suggested that the suspected steroid pills could be vitamins. However, he later requested an attorney and ended the phone call with investigators. The investigation into the drug trafficking activities of Reyes’ boyfriend and Sanchez continues, with legal proceedings pending for all involved parties. The arrests shed light on the complexities associated with law enforcement officers being linked to criminal activities.
