During a recent domestic incident near Yates Street and Ontario Street in Albany, one person was arrested and two handguns were recovered. The individual apprehended by the Albany police was Atiba Alfred, 25, who is now facing multiple charges. The incident unfolded around 6:20 p.m. on a Thursday when the police found Alfred hitting a woman in the face.
When an officer attempted to intervene, Alfred allegedly ran away on foot, taking shelter in a home on the 400 block of Yates Street. As the authorities tried to arrest him, Alfred is reported to have slammed the door on an officer’s hand. After a struggle, he was eventually taken into custody.
Later in their investigation, the police found a vehicle that both Alfred and the victim had exited shortly before the incident. Inside the vehicle, in plain sight on one of the seats, officers found a handgun. Following this discovery, the police requested a search warrant for the vehicle and the house that Alfred had fled into.
Upon executing these search warrants, the handgun from the car was seized. Additionally, the police found another handgun stashed inside luggage in the back seat of the vehicle. As a result of these findings, Alfred is now facing an array of charges including two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, and resisting arrest, and third-degree assault.
After his arraignment in Albany City Criminal Court on Friday, Alfred was remanded to the Albany County Jail. Further proceedings are expected to clarify the breadth of the charges and consequences. The swift action of the Albany police prevented this domestic situation from escalating further and potentially causing more harm.

I think we should ban all firearms to prevent domestic disputes. Safety first, right?
No, banning all firearms is not the solution. People have the right to defend themselves. Its about responsible gun ownership and proper regulations, not taking away everyones ability to protect themselves. Safety is important, but so is individual rights.
I think the real issue is the lack of gun control laws.
Gun control laws wont stop criminals from getting guns. Theyll find a way regardless. The real issue is addressing mental health and tackling the root causes of violence. Lets focus on solutions that actually make a difference.
Those handguns couldve been used for self-defense, not just crime. Think about it.
While self-defense is important, the prevalence of handguns in crime cannot be ignored. We must find a balance between individual safety and public security. Perhaps stricter regulations and better education on gun safety could help address both sides of the issue.
I think we should ban all firearms to prevent domestic disputes from escalating.
While banning all firearms may seem like a solution, its not practical or realistic. Instead, we should focus on implementing stricter regulations, mental health screenings, and education to prevent domestic disputes from escalating. Banning firearms wont address the root causes of violence.
Why do people keep guns at home? Are they asking for trouble?
Some people keep guns at home for self-defense and protection. Its a personal choice and not necessarily asking for trouble. Its important to respect differing opinions on this matter.
What if the guns were planted as part of a conspiracy? 🤔🔫
I think we should ban all handguns to prevent future domestic disputes.
Are you suggesting we strip law-abiding citizens of their right to self-defense? Banning handguns wont solve the underlying issues causing domestic disputes. Education and addressing root causes are more effective than a blanket ban. Lets focus on real solutions, not knee-jerk reactions.
Why are people focusing on the guns recovered instead of the domestic dispute itself?
Why are we focusing on the guns recovered instead of addressing the root cause?
We cant ignore the guns recovered when they are the tools used in the violence. Addressing the root cause is important, but we must also tackle the means by which harm is inflicted. Its not an either/or situation, we need a comprehensive approach.
I think we should ban all guns in households to prevent domestic disputes.
Why were there two handguns involved in a domestic dispute in Albany?
Should stricter gun control laws be implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future?
Absolutely not. Stricter gun control laws infringe on our constitutional rights and wont stop criminals from obtaining guns. We need to focus on mental health support and addressing the root causes of violence instead of punishing law-abiding citizens.
Whats the point of having guns at home? Just asking for trouble.
Was the recovery of two handguns really necessary? Could there have been a better solution?
Hey, sometimes tough decisions need to be made for public safety. If those handguns were a threat, then recovering them was necessary. Its better to be cautious than risk potential harm. Safety first, right?
Should stricter gun control laws be implemented in Albany after this incident?
Shouldnt we focus on preventing domestic disputes rather than just recovering weapons?
