Cricket West Indies (CWI) President Dr Kishore Shallow is committed to transforming the governance structure of the organization despite setbacks encountered at a recent Annual General Meeting. Dr Shallow had tabled a series of resolutions aimed at implementing governance reforms recommended by the Wehby Report, but some of these resolutions failed to secure the necessary majority vote for passage. Despite the disappointing result, Dr Shallow expressed optimism for the future and reiterated his commitment to ensuring that CWI’s governance structure remains robust.
The Wehby Report, which was distributed to CWI in January 2021, made a series of recommendations to increase transparency and accountability in the governance of West Indies cricket. Dr Shallow had previously stated that CWI would act on the recommendations of the report and accelerate governance reform. Following the defeat of some of his resolutions at the AGM, Dr Shallow expressed disappointment but emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to enact reforms for the betterment of West Indies cricket.
The AGM, which saw a full quorum of stakeholders present from various regions, was a crucial moment for the governance reform process within CWI. The Wehby Report was prepared by an independent Task Force led by Senator Don Wehby and included a wide cross-section of experts. Some of the key recommendations included comprehensive reform of the governance structure, establishing a Nominations Committee, and reducing the number of committees within CWI.
Dr Shallow highlighted the importance of engaging rigorously with stakeholders to navigate the process of governance reform while re-examining CWI’s governance structure. Despite the setbacks faced at the AGM, Dr Shallow remains committed to fostering positive change within the organization and ensuring that the governance structure is aligned with modern corporate best practices. The rejection of some resolutions has not deterred Dr Shallow from pursuing further consultations and advocacy to advance the integrity and effectiveness of CWI.
Overall, the focus on governance reform within CWI remains a top priority for Dr Kishore Shallow and the organization. The Wehby Report has provided a roadmap for improvements to increase transparency, accountability, and efficiency within West Indies cricket. Moving forward, Dr Shallow and CWI will continue their efforts toward enacting these reforms for the betterment of the organization and the sport as a whole.
