Drawn numbers for estimated $750 million Powerball jackpot announced

The winning numbers for Saturday’s Powerball jackpot, worth $750 million, were drawn and revealed to be 6, 23, 25, 34, 51 with a Powerball of 3. This was the 35th drawing since New Year’s Day, the last time a grand prize winner was announced. At the time of the lottery announcement, it was still unclear whether there were any winners of this latest jackpot.

In the event of a single winner, they would have the option to take a lump sum prior to taxes of approximately $360.8 million or opt for the $750 million annuity option. This annuity option would consist of 30 annual payments, increasing each year by 5%. These payments would average around $25 million per year, again before taxes, according to USAMega, a lottery analysis site.

Winning the Powerball jackpot is no small feat with odds being 1 in 292.2 million. Despite this, the US has once again been swept up in lottery fever. This is in part due to the Mega Millions jackpot reaching an estimated $1.1 billion; the fifth-largest in the game’s history. The Mega Millions jackpot has remained unclaimed since December 8.

Big jackpots for both the Powerball and Mega Millions have become a more common occurrence in recent years. This increased frequency is due to both games increasing their ticket prices and reducing the odds. In August of the previous year, a single ticket from Neptune, Florida, claimed a $1.6 billion jackpot – the largest in Mega Millions history and the third-largest in lottery history overall.

In February 2023, a winning ticket sold near Los Angeles claimed a $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot. This jackpot exceeded all records, becoming the largest in lottery history. Powerball tickets can be purchased for $2 in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Powerball drawings are held thrice a week; every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 11 p.m. Eastern.
