A former UPS worker in Winnipeg, Orville Martirez Beltrano, is facing charges for allegedly stealing and reselling $1.3 million worth of Apple products from a UPS warehouse where he worked as a local sorting supervisor. Beltrano is accused of stealing approximately 866 Apple products between July 2023 and January 2024 and selling them on Kijiji for cash or e-transfers. The court documents reveal that Beltrano made more than $232,000 in cash deposits into his bank accounts between September and January.
Beltrano was arrested on January 22 by Winnipeg police and charged with theft over $5,000, theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and possession of the proceeds of crime. During a search of his home and vehicle on January 23, police found $9,000 in cash bundled in a Nike bag in his vehicle, a Mac laptop, and jewelry valued at over $9,100. In a videotaped interview with police, Beltrano admitted to stealing Apple products from the warehouse, as well as the jewelry. He confessed that the cash seized from his vehicle came from the sales of the stolen Apple products.
According to court documents, Beltrano used the money obtained from selling the stolen items to purchase a home in Winnipeg’s South Pointe neighborhood for $630,000 in January. He also paid off the debt on a white Audi hatchback that was purchased in 2021 for $60,000. Officials have filed a court application seeking permission to seize Beltrano’s house, Audi, $9,000 in cash, and bank accounts as part of the legal process to recover the stolen funds. The case is part of an ongoing investigation by the authorities.
The case involving Beltrano highlights the extent of the theft and fraud that can occur within large companies like UPS, with employees taking advantage of their positions for personal gain. The significant amount of money involved in this case raises concerns about the lax security measures or oversight within the company that allowed Beltrano to carry out the theft over an extended period. This incident serves as a reminder for organizations to implement strict security protocols and regular audits to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
The charges faced by Beltrano and the legal proceedings against him underscore the serious consequences of committing theft and fraud in the workplace. The court documents detailing his actions and admissions provide clear evidence of his involvement in the illegal activities, which have resulted in criminal charges and potential seizure of his assets. The case serves as a warning to individuals tempted to engage in similar criminal activities and highlights the importance of ethical conduct and accountability in the workplace to maintain trust and integrity within organizations.
As the investigation and legal process unfold, it will be crucial to determine the full extent of Beltrano’s actions and any potential accomplices or accomplices involved in the theft scheme. The recovery of the stolen funds and assets through legal means will be essential to ensure justice is served and to deter others from committing similar crimes in the future. Overall, the case serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of greed and dishonesty in the workplace and the importance of upholding ethical standards and integrity in all aspects of business operations.
