In the criminal trial of Long Island MP Adrian Gibson and others, retired police superintendent Bradley Pratt denied threatening to search a house and “go through” the underwear of Gibson’s relative. Pratt was part of a team of investigators that traveled to Long Island in 2022 to investigate Aaron’s Car Rental, a company owned by Gibson, and properties allegedly belonging to the former chairman of the Water & Sewerage Corporation (WSC). The team identified properties of interest in Grays, Long Island, and Deadman’s Cay, as well as vehicles and ATVs allegedly belonging to Aaron’s Car Rental.
While being cross-examined by Gibson’s lawyer, Damian Gomez, KC, Pratt denied making the threatening statement and claimed he knew how to conduct himself professionally during the investigation. He also denied that witnesses and defendants were officially interviewed at the WSC’s headquarters. Pratt was shown a 2021 property sale agreement between the Ebenezer Methodist Church and Adrian Gibson, with the purchase price listed around $525,000. Gibson is facing money laundering charges related to his time as WSC executive chairman under the Minnis administration, along with several other individuals.
Deputy Police Commissioner Leamond Deleveaux assembled a team that traveled to Long Island in April 2022 after receiving a fraud complaint from the Water & Sewerage Corporation. During their visit, officers identified properties linked to the WSC chairman and Aaron’s Car Rental, as well as vehicles and ATV’s allegedly owned by the rental company. They also discovered a house from which the rental company appeared to be operating and reportedly spoke with an elderly man who identified himself as “Gibson.”
Gomez and Pratt engaged in further back-and-forth during the cross-examination, with Gomez questioning Pratt’s actions and statements during the investigation. Pratt maintained his stance that he did not make any threatening remarks or act inappropriately during the search of the properties in Long Island. The trial involves multiple defendants, with Gibson facing charges alongside former WSC general manager Elwood Donaldson, Jr, Joan Knowles, Peaches Farquharson, and Jerome Missick. The defendants are being represented by several lawyers, including Gomez, KC, Murrio Ducille, KC, and others.
The prosecution team in the trial includes acting Director of Public Prosecutions Cordell Frazier, Cashena Thompson, Karine MacVean, and Rashied Edgecombe. The case revolves around allegations of money laundering during Gibson’s time as WSC executive chairman and involves multiple properties and transactions being investigated. The trial in the Supreme Court has seen testimonies from witnesses and defendants as the legal teams on both sides make their arguments and present evidence to the court. Pratt’s denial of the threatening statements made during the investigation is just one aspect of the complex trial that is ongoing.
