Fowler, Rose, Simms, Nooks, and Creary excell in the 800m semi-finals at Champs.

The 2024 ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica, saw several promising young athletes qualify for the final rounds of the Girls’ Class Three 800m. Among these talented competitors is Edwin Allen star Kevongaye Fowler, who won her semi-final and is set to compete in the final race.

Fowler, who holds the season’s fastest time of 2:12.35, confidently progressed to the final with a winning time of 2:19.91. However, Alikay Reynolds from Alphansus Davis High School emerged as the fastest qualifier. She won her semi-final heat with a time of 2:16.51, while Dallia Fairweather from St Mary High posted the third quickest time at 2:18.81.

Other successful athletes include Denique Palmer of Edwin Allen, who won her semi-final race with a time of 2:18.29, marking the second fastest time. Tabbrel Williams from Alphansus Davis High School also qualified for the final with her time of 2:20.67. Meanwhile, the girls’ Class Two 800m saw Holmwood Technical’s Jovi Rose emerge as the top qualifier, with a fast time of 2:16.33.

On the boys’ side, Jamaica College’s (JC) Cavel Nooks stood out, triumphing in the 800m semi-final with an impressive time of 2:02.65, the fastest time of all the heats. His teammate, Camron Williams, secured the second-fastest qualifying time with 2:05.97. In addition, Samuel Creary, another standout from JC, won his 800m semi-final in 1:58.38, marking the fastest qualifying time.

Looking ahead, these impressive young athletes are now approaching the final races of the Championship. Each of them has showcased remarkable talent and speed during their respective semi-finals, cementing their positions as top contenders. The final rounds are set to be fiercely competitive, promising a thrilling championship finale.
