On March 23, a fundraiser was organized for an 8-year-old boy, Landyn Davis, who was shot in the head while in his Virginia Beach home in February. The boy was playing computer games when a bullet went through his head, causing him to be placed in a medically-induced coma at the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters.
Since the shooting incident, Landyn has made considerable progress and has awoken from his coma. His mother, Emily Rigsby, reported he is awake and doing well. The young boy underwent physical therapy, showing remarkable strength and bravery as shown in the photo made available to the public. In the picture, Landyn can be seen smiling while inside a brace-like device.
Despite his traumatic ordeal, Landyn seems to be on a steady path towards recovery. The fundraiser was named “Landyn’s Ride” and it included a myriad of family-friendly activities to help with the financial aspect of Landyn’s extensive care.
Landyn’s Ride included a motorcycle cruise with reserved parking facilities on Atlantic Avenue. The event also catered to entertainment with various family-friendly activities, food stalls, and candy stands. Also included in the fundraising event was a silent auction and raffle prizes to further engage the attendees and raise funds.
Such initiatives are significant as they not only provide vital financial support for the victim’s recovery process but also serve to spread awareness about the adverse repercussions of accidents involving firearms, particularly within homes. The initiative also displays a strong sense of community spirit, rallying behind a family during their time of need. The aim now is to obtain as much support as possible to ensure a full recovery for Landyn.

I think its great to see the community coming together to support Landyn.
Why do we need fundraisers for basic healthcare in a developed country?
Why not focus on preventing gun violence instead of just fundraising after tragedies?
Because fundraising after tragedies helps support victims and their families in their time of need. Its important to address immediate needs while also working towards preventing future incidents. Both aspects are necessary in creating a safer society.
Shouldnt the focus be on preventing such incidents rather than just fundraising after?
Fundraising is vital for immediate support and awareness. Preventing incidents requires a multi-faceted approach involving education, policy changes, and community involvement. Both fundraising and prevention efforts are necessary for a comprehensive response to any issue.
Do you think fundraisers for individual victims are more impactful than broader community support efforts?
Why should a child have to endure such trauma? Heartbreaking. #JusticeForLandyn
