BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man who authorities say had a blood-alcohol content twice the legal limit when his SUV collided head-on with another vehicle, injuring its driver, had his preliminary hearing postponed about a month on Thursday.
Isaac Alawdi is now scheduled for a hearing April 11 to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to order him to trial on two felony counts of drunken driving causing injury, according to court records.
The crash occurred at about 8:14 p.m. on Nov. 10 at the intersection of Gosford Road and Addison Way.
According to a court filing, witnesses told investigators Alawdi’s Mercedes-Benz was speeding north on Gosford when it tried to enter the westbound turn lane, hit the median then traveled north into southbound lanes. It collided head-on with a Buick Encore.
The Buick’s 19-year-old driver suffered a broken femur and arm, and bruised hips, according to the filing. A preliminary alcohol screening revealed Alawdi’s blood-alcohol content as 0.16%, the filing says.
