How The MS-13 Gang Actually Works | How Crime Works | Insider

Alex Sanchez is a former high-ranking member of MS-13. He became involved in the gang in the 1980s in Los Angeles and participated in its expansion.

Sanchez was deported to El Salvador in 1994 along with 4,000 other Salvadorans. There, he began to recruit young members into the gang. He was involved in robberies, street fights, and carjackings, and he survived being shot four times. Sanchez decided to leave MS-13 in the mid-1990s. He is now the executive director of Homies Unidos and is a violence-prevention worker and expert on gang culture.

He speaks with Business Insider about the Los Angeles Police Department, tattooing, rules and codes, media perception, and the political language used to depict the gang, such as Donald Trump’s comments in 2018. Sanchez’s story is profiled in the books “MS-13: The Making of America’s Most Notorious Gang” and “Unforgetting: A Memoir of Family, Migration, Gangs, and Revolution in the Americas.”

The fact that I was watching your videos the other day and I said to myself “I wish they could interview someone from MS-13” and boom you uploaded one today 🤯

  • @acchillin6813 June 27, 2024

Cecot has already reduced violence incredibly, by all accounts.

  • @marbingarcia158 June 27, 2024

Dinos tu como se resolverá entonces ?

  • @Dongio87 June 27, 2024

This dude is trying whiting the face of the gang. This gang has been a root cause of evil in El Salvador.
The gang has always and will always be a danger to society. Point blank. Even though some people can change , the way of the gang has not and will not change.

As a retired prison counselor I can tell you this-THE ONLY HOPE IS CHRIST ❤

  • @user-hu2og7uw5e June 27, 2024

He is very articulate; I'm sure it's very beneficial to his recovery process. You can tell that he rose far and above…

  • @based__potato June 27, 2024

Imagine…"but…but…but the other gangs are bad why go after us?" Pathetic. You chose that life. You suffer the consequences of your decisions.

  • Alex, i think i met you… did you used to work with tattoo removal by mc arthur park?? Up the hill a bit? I think u came to talk to us.

  • @Hi-NuAetherling June 27, 2024

He had me until he tried to paint MS as a victim because they're not "american" while crips, bloods, and Chicano gangs are. The reason why MS gets labeled as bad as it does is because of how it is toward non gang affiliated people. I grew up around crips, bloods, lk, lp, and MS. Guess which one I wear a 6-inch scar across my inner thigh from them randomly attacking me one day? Did you guess, MS? Then you win. I was just walking home one day and was attacked. MS is full of cockroaches.

Next episode: “how the show how crime works actually works.”

  • @gp5 June 27, 2024

By the way he starts talking at 14:42 it seems to me this individual is advocating for gang members because everything he talked about the mega jail and what is going on in El Salvador with how the gangs are dealt with is all lies, you think he'd be happy because the country is safe now.

    – He states that in the past the mass incarceration of gang members did not reduce violence, that's correct, that's because the system remained the same and no changes were ever made, but that was in the past, now El Salvador is amongst the safest countries in the world and guess why? GANG MEMBERS ARE LOCKED UP forever, before they use to walk out of prison within 72 hours for "lack of evidence"
    – These are NOT supposed gang members, and NO they have not been judged "unjustly" these are mostly serial killers, rapists, extortionists, thieves, who ever goes to that jail has already been tried and convicted with EVIDENCE (investigations, forensics, etc) by a judge.

  • @onwardyuh4008 June 27, 2024

Judged "unjustly" haha cry me a river scum

  • @jamesjean-louis3093 June 27, 2024

  • @realitytube6290 June 27, 2024

    Crime doesnt work.

Thanks to his Excellency President Nayib Bukele of El Salvador has terminated all this nonsense including MS13 and Barrio 18th Street Gang.

  • @AlanFenick June 27, 2024

The Salvadorian government has stated that the prison has reduced crime and has released statistics showing the impact of the policy on murder rates, extortion, kidnapping, robberies, rape. From the news outlets state that the people of El Salvador have overwhelmingly supported the policy! The most recent election they overwhelmingly reelected the President who promised to take back the country from the gangs. Yes, it’s harsh and some maybe improperly detained, but this was a desperate response to saving lives and a country. Desperate people and governments do desperate things in desperate times. Before the new policy up to 103 deaths per 100,000 a year occurred, after the new policy tne death rate from crime is 2.4 deaths per 100,000 persons. If these number are true it’s absolutely incredible and proof the policy is working.

  • integration is not my need. I'm all knowing like a god but I'm 33 and not even old enough to be god…………….. the reason Choctaw will rule MS13. i was called a mexican before.

  • @alfonsotinoco6926 June 27, 2024

What if every gangster steal at the same time within the 50 states and with a COVID mask and will they get away with it or will the jail's get over packed again …🤑🤑🤑…

  • @joelb9248 June 27, 2024

Real nice guy. Couldn't assimilate, couldn't be peaceful, and terrorized our streets and country until he was finally broken. Deported? Got it removed and here legally now? Repeat millions of times. The end.

  • @sandrab.5065 June 27, 2024

This is why WAR has to stop. The dead are gone but the living suffer the consequences for the rest of their lives. Watch the interviews of Bukele and Tucker for more details about the mass incarceration, crimes and scope of MS13.

Last month, Bukele also announced that his entire executive branch are under investigation too. The announcement was televised “live,” and the reaction of some of the govt officials were priceless.

El Salvador is going through a PURGE. Will the purification work? Will El Salvador recover and thrive after Bukele’s second term? I hope so for humanity’s sake.

  • @robelbelay1938 June 27, 2024

The moment, he said he is still "gang member" lost it all
