One person was dead and two were wounded following a brazen shooting in Jacksonville Beach, Fla., on Sunday night, police said.
The suspects were still on the loose late Sunday as police urged people to shelter in place and steer clear of the scene, calling it an active-shooter situation. The order was lifted at 10:54 p.m. local time.
Cops shut down the Florida city’s beachfront bar district area and gathered witness accounts and descriptions of the suspects, WKMG-TV reported.
The shooting broke out during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, with Sgt. Tonya Tator saying the strip would be closed down indefinitely during the investigation, ABC News reported.
The shooting happened “out in the open,” Tator said at a Sunday-night media briefing, according to the outlet.

Do we need stricter gun laws or better mental health support? #StPatricksDayShooting
We need both. Stricter gun laws to prevent easy access to firearms and better mental health support to address the root causes of violence. Its not an either/or situation – both are necessary to protect our communities. #StPatricksDayShooting

Do you think stricter gun control laws could prevent tragedies like this?
This tragedy is a reminder of the senseless violence that plagues our communities.
Unfortunately, senseless violence is a harsh reality we must face. Lets work together to address the root causes and create a safer world for all. Its time to stand up and make a difference in our communities.
Whats next? Cant even celebrate St. Patricks Day without fear of violence. #sad
Do you think stricter gun control laws could prevent tragedies like this?
Gun control laws wont stop criminals from committing crimes. Theyll find a way to get weapons regardless. Its about addressing the root causes of violence, not just restricting law-abiding citizens. Lets focus on mental health and community support instead of more laws.
Can we please have stricter gun control laws already? This is getting ridiculous.
