The Jamaica Rum Festival made a triumphant return with a launch event held at The Ruins at The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. Appleton Estate hosted the elegant affair, which saw industry stakeholders and specially invited guests come together to celebrate Jamaican excellence. Stefano Furini, Marketing Director at J Wray & Nephew Limited, provided an overview of the event and announced a partnership with Reggae Sumfest. This year’s festival is particularly special as it marks the fifth staging and offers patrons an opportunity to experience the rich heritage of Jamaican rums.
The partnership with Reggae Sumfest will see the Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum Festival hosted on July 18, 2024, at the Catherine Hall Sports Complex in Montego Bay. The festival will feature rum education seminars, delicious food, live performances, and a special Blitz concert to close the event. The Blitz concert will showcase local and international acts, including Beenie Man, Walshy Fire from Major Lazer, and Brush1 and Franco. This collaboration between the two festivals promises double the entertainment value with one ticket, one price, and the same venue for an unforgettable experience.
Joe Bogdanovich, CEO of DownSound Entertainment and executive producer of Reggae Sumfest, expressed excitement about the partnership and the opportunity to develop Reggae Sumfest into an international brand with the support of Appleton Estate. The three-year relationship between the two festivals is seen as a big boost and a global opportunity to showcase Jamaican music and culture to a wider audience. Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett also delivered a keynote speech at the launch event, highlighting the significance of the collaboration and the positive impact it will have on Jamaica’s tourism industry.
The launch event concluded with a captivating performance by Ras-I, adding to the celebratory atmosphere of the evening. With high expectations for the upcoming Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum Festival and its partnership with Reggae Sumfest, attendees were treated to a taste of what’s to come at the festival. The blend of rum education, culinary delights, live music, and entertainment promises a memorable experience for patrons, both locals and tourists alike. The collaboration between these two popular festivals symbolizes a coming together of cultural and entertainment entities to showcase the best of Jamaica’s spirit and creativity to the world.

I think they should have added a dancehall night to spice things up! 🕺🍹
I dont get the hype, sounds like a recipe for disaster. Rum + reggae? Nah.
I think they should add a dancehall night for a more diverse experience!
I dont get the hype – Rum and Reggae together is a recipe for disaster.
Actually, Rum and Reggae is a match made in paradise! The smooth notes of rum perfectly complement the laid-back vibes of reggae music. Its all about enjoying the moment and feeling the good vibrations. Give it a try, you might just change your mind!
I dont see the connection between rum and music festivals. Seems odd to me!
Should the festival focus more on rum or music? Lets debate! 🥃🎶
Why not both? A good festival needs a balanced mix of rum and music to create the perfect vibe. Too much of one without the other could throw off the whole experience. Lets embrace the best of both worlds and have a legendary time! 🥃🎶
I think they should have included more diverse music genres, not just reggae.
I think they should add a dancehall competition to spice things up! 🕺🥃
Nah, we dont need more distractions. The focus should be on the main event, not some dance-off. Keep it classy, not cheesy. Lets stick to what really matters.
Do we really need more festivals promoting alcohol and partying? Prioritize culture and art!
I think they shouldve partnered with a different music festival instead. More variety!
I think this collaboration is a match made in heaven! Rum and reggae – yes please!
I couldnt disagree more. Rum and reggae might seem like a good combo on the surface, but the cultural appropriation and stereotypes it perpetuates are problematic. Lets strive for collaborations that respect and uplift the origins of reggae music.
Shouldnt they have teamed up sooner? Seems like a perfect match!
Why not add a dancehall competition to spice up the collaboration?
Is this collaboration a match made in heaven or a recipe for disaster?
Is it just me, or does this collaboration between the Jamaica Rum Festival and Reggae Sumfest sound like a match made in paradise? 🥃🎶
Honestly, I dont see the hype. Mixing rum and reggae is just a cliché. Its like trying to force a connection between two unrelated things. Creativity is about pushing boundaries, not sticking to stereotypes. Lets aim for something more unexpected next time.
Why combine rum and reggae? Seems like an odd pairing to me.
I wonder if this collaboration will bring more tourists to Jamaica. Exciting times ahead!
I highly doubt it. Jamaica already has plenty to offer tourists without needing a collaboration to attract them. Lets focus on preserving the natural beauty and cultural richness of the country instead of relying on partnerships for tourism.
I cant believe theyre combining rum and reggae, what a wild combo!
I think this collaboration is a match made in party heaven! Whos ready to dance?
Im not sure about that. I feel like this collaboration could go either way. It might be a hit or a miss. Lets wait and see how it turns out on the dance floor.
