Traffickers use internet and social media Apps to recruit victims especially vulnerable children and youth. Additionally, traffickers may use social media to control victims through restricting their social media access, impersonating the victim, or spreading lies and rumors online to make it difficult for law enforcement to locate victims. Talk to kids about the risky environment in the online world. Ask them avoid responding or communicating with strangers when they get a friend request from a person they don’t know. If you suspect someone might be in a trafficking situation, call the National Human Trafficking hotline at 888-373-7888
