La Police nationale d’Haïti a récemment publié un bilan de ses opérations et interventions, indiquant que 17 bandits ont été mortellement blessés, 17 armes à feu ont été saisies et un véhicule a été confisqué entre le 29 février et le 26 mars 2024. Parmi les bandits tués se trouvent les chefs de gangs Ernst Julmé, alias “Ti Grèg”, et Makandal. Les armes saisies comprenaient des fusils de calibre 12, AK47, pistolets 9mm et M4. Ces opérations ont été menées en réponse aux attaques perpétrées sur des institutions publiques et privées par des individus lourdement armés cherchant à instaurer un climat de terreur à Port-au-Prince.
Le Directeur général a.i. de la PNH, Frantz Elbé, a donné des instructions formelles aux responsables des unités spécialisées de la Police pour intensifier les opérations afin de garantir la sécurité des citoyens et de protéger leurs vies et biens. La PNH s’est engagée à poursuivre la lutte contre les gangs armés tout en appelant à la collaboration de la population civile. La montée de l’insécurité dans la région métropolitaine de Port-au-Prince a entraîné le déplacement de milliers de personnes, forçant même les ambassades à évacuer leurs ressortissants vers la République Dominicaine.
La violence des gangs a contraint environ 15 000 personnes à quitter leur domicile dans la région métropolitaine de Port-au-Prince depuis le 29 février. Les autorités locales et les organisations internationales surveillent de près la situation et mettent en œuvre des mesures pour faire face à l’escalade de l’insécurité. La PNH continue de mener des opérations pour neutraliser les groupes criminels et assurer la sécurité des habitants de Port-au-Prince.
Malgré les efforts de la Police nationale d’Haïti pour lutter contre les gangs armés, la situation sécuritaire dans la région métropolitaine de Port-au-Prince reste préoccupante. Les autorités locales cherchent des solutions à long terme pour restaurer la paix et la sécurité, tout en appelant à la coopération de la population civile.
