LeBron James and D’Angelo Russell led the Los Angeles Lakers to a 136-105 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. Russell tied the Lakers’ single-season record for 3-pointers, surpassing Kobe Bryant’s record from the 2005-2006 season. Russell’s standout shooting display included a beautiful buzzer-beating 3-pointer in the third quarter. Anthony Davis, who had recovered from a scratched cornea, contributed 22 points and 15 rebounds as the Lakers snapped a two-game losing streak.
Davis chose not to wear goggles despite his eye injury, as he had previously worn them in high school before getting corrective eye surgery. With this win, the Lakers moved up to ninth place in the Western Conference standings. James, who had 25 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds in the game, continued to showcase his exceptional performance, scoring 65 points in the past two games. Jalen Johnson and Bogdan Bogdanovic led the Hawks in scoring, but their defensive effort couldn’t match the Lakers’ offensive prowess.
Despite missing Trae Young for the 12th consecutive game due to hand surgery, the Hawks struggled to contain the Lakers’ offensive firepower. Los Angeles shot 60% in the first half and gradually pulled away from the Hawks. Russell’s accurate shooting, along with James and Davis’ contributions, propelled the Lakers to a comfortable victory. Atlanta coach Quin Snyder praised the Lakers’ unselfishness and offensive efficiency, acknowledging the difficulty of sustaining defensive efforts against a high-performing team like the Lakers.
Atlanta’s Onyeka Okongwu returned to the court after a 13-game injury absence, contributing 11 points and four rebounds. However, the Hawks couldn’t overcome the Lakers’ strong performance and suffered their fourth loss in five games. The Lakers’ balanced offensive attack and solid defensive play secured the win, with Russell’s record-breaking shooting and James’ consistent scoring leading the way. The Hawks will face Phoenix next, while the Lakers will host Philadelphia in their upcoming games.
