Tyron Jackson, 36, of Schenectady, has been convicted of two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. Jackson, who has a history of violent felony offences, now faces a prison sentence between sixteen and twenty-five years.
The Schenectady Police were in the execution of a Parole Absconder Arrest Warrant for Jackson on May 21. It was during this process that Jackson reportedly attempted to flee the apartment he was in. However, police officers on the scene were able to witness Jackson pull a loaded Smith and Wesson semiautomatic handgun from his waistband, which he subsequently dropped.
Jackson was apprehended by the police officers and the handgun was also successfully recovered. The jury, having considered the case, concluded that Jackson had possession of the loaded firearm and that his intent was to use it unlawfully against another person.
Sentencing for Jackson has been scheduled for May 15. Given his status as a persistent violent felony offender, this could see him behind bars for between sixteen to twenty-five years. The significant sentence reflects the severity of the crime committed and the considerable risk he posed to others.
This case underscores the continuous efforts by police and law enforcement agencies to ensure public safety and bring offenders to justice. Despite the immediate threat posed by Jackson, the Schenectady Police were able to successfully execute the arrest without any harm coming to the officers or innocent bystanders. The recovery of the loaded firearm also prevented the potential for further crimes to be committed with the weapon.

Wow, can we trust the jurys decision on this one? Seems fishy to me.
I dont get why some people still think owning guns is necessary.
Owning guns is a fundamental right protected by the Constitution. Self-defense, hunting, and sport shooting are valid reasons. Dont let fear dictate your opinion. Its about personal responsibility and freedom. Just because you dont understand something doesnt mean its unnecessary.

I believe the jury made the right call. Guns are dangerous in the wrong hands.
Disagree. Guns dont kill people, people do. Responsible gun ownership is key. The jurys decision was based on evidence presented. Blaming an inanimate object is misguided. Personal responsibility and proper gun education are crucial.
