National Wage Theft Investigation Reveals California Victims Wait Twice As Long For Resolution

In collaboration with CalMatters, CBS Sacramento has been investigating wage theft in California — employers failing to pay workers what they’re owed. Our findings led to a national CBS News investigation. Now, that wage theft data from across the county reveals how much worse the problem is here. California victims have to wait twice as long for a decision in a wage theft case and are less likely to get paid even after they win.

The DLSE seem to work for the employers in Retaliation cases. I won my Wage and Hr case, but lost my job and my case worker seems to be working for my former employer, my case has dragged on for over 7 years..

Sadly in California getting an attorney is the best way to go usually they can add enough violations to pay for the attorney, California has a tool wage law that says if you a required to use your tools to complete your job you are entitled to 2x minimum wage, that’s 30$ a hour in California and it’s a major law that gets ignored more than half the time

my hearing will be tomorrow via telephone. the employer filed for bankruptcy but he's working under the same company I work and for sure getting salary. from what I heard, it will be hard to get any settlement on this case. what is the labor commission here for? it's a felony crime on other state, why not CA? very disappointing!

Free phone Truconnect needs to be investigated

  • As a careworker two different care homes in Humboldt Co, CA, all the workers were required to show up 15 min early and leave 15 min late. We also never got raises, never any lunch time, and were paid 10-25 cents over min wage. We had no sick leave, retirement, and disability due to injury was almost impossible to claim. If they've been forced to observe any changes I'm 100% sure they've managed to do it at the expense of the workers and not the care home owner's profits or the industry. They owe me and everyone else who worked there for hours and hours of unpaid labor. I also saw the county inspector taking bribes from an owner, so I assume this is standard practice or they wouldn't have been so confident about screwing us over on a daily basis.
