Two Colonie men, Kevin Wang and Kyle Zheng, were arrested on felony gun charges after allegedly target shooting illegally at Pittstown State Forest in Grafton. A New York State Forest Ranger discovered that the two had multiple illegal, non-compliant guns and notified the State Police, leading to a joint investigation. Search warrants were executed in Albany County where police found two 3D printers, multiple lower and upper receivers, armorer tools, completed firearms including a ghost gun, and numerous boxes of ammunition. Originally charged with multiple weapon possession counts, additional charges have been added.
Kevin Wang is facing charges of first-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (three counts), fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon (28 counts), and criminal possession of a firearm (two counts). Kyle Zheng is facing two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Both men are currently in the custody of the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility. The charges against them stem from the illegal target shooting incident and the possession of weapons and controlled substances.
The discovery of the illegal target shooting incident at Pittstown State Forest in Grafton led to a joint investigation by the New York State Police. The search warrants executed in Albany County revealed a concerning amount of illegal firearms-related items in the possession of Wang and Zheng. These items included 3D printers, various firearm parts, armorer tools, completed firearms, and ammunition. The number of weapons and firearm-related items found indicated a potential larger illegal operation involving the production and possession of firearms.
The charges against Wang and Zheng have been expanded to include drug possession charges in addition to the weapon possession charges. The presence of controlled substances in their possession adds another layer to the investigation and raises questions about potential connections between illegal firearm possession and drug trafficking. Wang is facing multiple counts of weapon possession and drug possession, while Zheng is facing charges related to weapon possession. The investigation into their activities and the motivation behind their possession of illegal firearms and drugs is ongoing.
Both Wang and Zheng are currently being held at the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility as the legal proceedings continue. The seriousness of the charges they are facing, which include first-degree weapon possession and multiple counts of drug possession, indicates the potential severity of their alleged criminal activities. The illegal possession and use of firearms, combined with drug possession, pose a significant risk to public safety and law enforcement agencies will likely continue to investigate the case thoroughly to uncover any additional involvement or connections to criminal activities.
