The Winnipeg police are currently searching for a man and a woman who have committed nearly $2,500 worth of retail thefts, sometimes with a young child present. The property crime unit began investigating the pair, identified as Lorne Quintin Fleet, 44, and Lena Rose Romero, 41, in January. The couple is wanted in connection with multiple incidents where products and groceries were stolen, with a child under 10 present during four of the eight thefts. There are seven warrants for Fleet and four for Romero, and police have expressed concern for the child’s well-being.
The stolen goods amount to approximately $1,050 taken from a retail store on Regent Avenue in December and January, $40 from a store on McPhillips Street in late January, and $155 from a store on Kenaston Boulevard in February. The total losses from the eight incidents are estimated at $2,445. Authorities have urged anyone with information on the whereabouts of Fleet and Romero to contact property crime investigators or Crime Stoppers. They are seeking assistance in locating the suspects and ensuring the child’s safety.
In a separate incident, a 36-year-old man was arrested after an extensive shoplifting spree at various city malls. Police responded to a call from the Outlet Collection Winnipeg mall and apprehended the man as he attempted to flee with stolen sunglasses. The suspect was found in possession of three pairs of sunglasses valued at $1,400, linked to 11 thefts at multiple malls across the city. He has been charged with 11 counts of theft under $5,000 for stealing over $16,000 worth of merchandise, including sunglasses, watches, and clothing.
Furthermore, the Winnipeg police arrested a 21-year-old man and a group of youths for stealing machetes and throwing knives from Cabela’s. The thieves took three 18-inch machetes and a pack of Smith & Wesson throwing knives and fled to the outlet mall. Six individuals were arrested, including three males aged 21, 16, and 13, who were charged with weapon possession, carrying a concealed weapon, and theft under $5,000. Three female youths aged 15-16 were also arrested, with one held in custody on an outstanding warrant and the others released with trespassing notices.
Overall, the Winnipeg police are actively investigating and making arrests in cases of retail thefts and weapon possession. Suspects like Lorne Quintin Fleet and Lena Rose Romero in the first incident, as well as the 36-year-old man in the second case, are being pursued for their criminal activities. The authorities are committed to ensuring public safety and have successfully apprehended individuals engaged in illegal activities such as theft and possession of weapons, such as machetes and throwing knives. Their efforts aim to address criminal behavior and protect the community from potential harm.
