Two Winnipeggers who were arrested in June of last year for firing shots from a rifle out of a balcony window have been linked to other crimes, according to police. The incident occurred on June 15, 2023, where shots were fired from a rifle and crack cocaine was seized, but no injuries were reported. Additionally, the two men are now facing charges for another shooting incident that took place the day before near Magnus Avenue and Main Street. In this incident, one of the suspects allegedly fired a 12-gauge shotgun multiple times, hitting an unoccupied vehicle. They are also accused of attempting to rob a St. Mary Avenue hotel but were unsuccessful in stealing any property, despite using bear spray on two employees.
One of the suspects fled Manitoba in December 2023, violating the conditions of his release, leading Winnipeg police to work with officers in Nelson, B.C., to apprehend him. He was found at a Nelson-area home and arrested on a Canada-wide warrant. The suspect was wanted on a total of eight warrants and faces numerous weapons charges, as well as robbery and failure to comply offences. He has since been turned over to Winnipeg police and flown back to Manitoba for further legal proceedings. The second suspect was already in custody at the Milner Ridge Correctional Facility for unrelated offences and was re-arrested on February 17.
Both suspects are still in custody as the legal process unfolds. The first suspect faces charges related to the shooting incidents, robbery attempt, and failure to comply with conditions of his release. The second suspect, who was already incarcerated at the time of his re-arrest, is also facing charges in connection with the crimes. The collaboration between Winnipeg police and officers in Nelson, B.C., led to the apprehension of one suspect who had fled the province, demonstrating the cooperation between law enforcement agencies to bring individuals to justice for their alleged involvement in criminal activities.
The arrests of the two Winnipeggers are part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address and reduce violent crimes in the city. The incidents involving shots fired from a rifle and attempted robbery highlight the dangers posed by individuals engaging in criminal activities that threaten the safety and well-being of the community. The additional charges linked to the suspects demonstrate the seriousness of the crimes they are accused of committing and the need for a thorough investigation and prosecution to ensure justice is served. The suspects are being held in custody as the legal process moves forward, with additional charges and court appearances expected in the future.
The collaboration between Winnipeg police and officers in Nelson, B.C., in apprehending one of the suspects who had fled the province showcases the importance of interagency cooperation in law enforcement efforts. By working together, law enforcement agencies can track down and apprehend individuals who attempt to evade justice by fleeing to other areas. The arrests of these two Winnipeggers serve as a testament to the dedication and persistence of law enforcement officials in pursuing individuals involved in criminal activities and holding them accountable for their actions.
