Philadelphia police announced the arrest of a fifth teenager in connection with the March 6 shooting that injured eight high school students. The latest suspect, a 15-year-old, is believed to have acted as a lookout for the gunmen and was in contact with the other suspects at the time of the shooting.
The suspect sent photos and identifying descriptions of individuals at the bus stop to the other suspects and gave specifics about his own clothing to avoid being mistakenly targeted. The shooting incident took place just before 3 p.m., when three individuals exited a car and fired at least 30 rounds at the students who were at a transit stop.
Following the shooting, the 15-year-old suspect retreated to a nearby Dunkin’ Donuts store. Video footage helped link him to the crime, leading to his arrest. He’s been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault among other accusations.
Despite making significant inroads in their investigations resulting in several arrests, the motive for the attack remains unclear. Police are now working to establish whether the suspects may be involved in other related criminal incidents. The identities of the victims – two 15-year-olds, five 16-year-olds, and a 17-year-old – were released by the police, with one 16-year-old shot nine times.
Prior to the most recent arrest, police had apprehended Jamaal Tucker, 18; Ahnile Buggs, 18; Jermahd Carter, 19; and Asir Boone, 17. In addition to facing charges related to each of the eight victims, Tucker and Buggs are also being charged with criminal attempt to murder, aggravated assault, firearms violations, possession of an instrument of crime, simple assault, and reckless endangerment. Carter and Boone were also detained on suspicion of attempted murder and firearms violations. Police are using evidence from two stolen vehicles to further their investigations.

Why are teens resorting to violence? Its a sad reality we need to address.
Teens resort to violence because of a lack of proper guidance, role models, and support systems. Its easy to point fingers, but harder to address the root causes. We need to invest in our youth and create a more nurturing environment for them to thrive.
