In February 2024, a 64-year-old man was violently attacked at the ground level Churchill platform of the Valley Line LRT in downtown Edmonton. The man was waiting for a train when he was approached by a male suspect with whom he had a brief verbal exchange that escalated into a physical assault. Five other suspects joined in the attack, robbing the man before fleeing the scene. The victim was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Three suspects have been identified and charged, while three others remain unknown.
The Edmonton Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the three outstanding suspects in connection with the attack. Suspect #1 is described as a man of medium build and height wearing a white puffy jacket with a maroon/purple scarf, black pants, white running shoes with no laces, and carrying a black backpack. Suspect #2 is a 30 to 40-year-old man of slim build with dyed hair, wearing a black face mask, a black hat with a cannabis leaf on the front, and other distinctive clothing. Suspect #3 is described as a woman between 25 and 30 years old with shoulder-length straight brown hair, wearing a brown sweater, teal baggy pants, and white running shoes.
A warrant has been issued for Markus Lee Gladue, 21, who is wanted for aggravated assault, possessing an offensive weapon dangerous to the public, and robbery in connection with the attack. Additionally, two other individuals have been arrested and charged in relation to the assault. Brady Rodney Desroches-Smith, 28, is charged with aggravated assault and robbery, and Travis Damian Houle, 35, is charged with aggravated assault, robbery, and failure to comply with a probation order. It was noted that at the time of his arrest, Brady Rodney Desroches-Smith was also wanted for first-degree murder by the Grande Prairie RCMP.
The Edmonton Police Service is urging anyone who can identify the three remaining suspects or has information related to the attack to contact them at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online. Const. Anton Golosov expressed gratitude for the public’s assistance thus far and hopes that someone will recognize the suspects in the photos provided and come forward. The investigation into the attack is ongoing, and authorities are working diligently to ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice.

I think we should abolish the police altogether and focus on community solutions instead.
Respectfully, abolishing the police is not the solution. While reform is necessary, completely removing law enforcement would lead to chaos and jeopardize public safety. A balanced approach that combines community involvement with effective policing is key to creating a safer society.
I think we should abolish the police altogether and find alternative solutions.
Thats a pretty extreme view. While there are certainly issues that need addressing within law enforcement, completely abolishing the police is not the solution. We need to work towards reform and accountability rather than throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
I know this is serious, but maybe the suspects had a good reason?
Seriously? There is no excuse for violence. If they had a good reason, they should have gone through proper channels. Justifying criminal behavior is unacceptable. Lets hold people accountable for their actions instead of making excuses.
Why is there no mention of the pigeons involved in the LRT attack?
Oh please, pigeons involved in an LRT attack? Are we really going down that rabbit hole? Lets focus on the real issues at hand and not get caught up in bird conspiracies. Time to stay grounded in reality, my friend.
Why are we focusing on the suspects arrest instead of the victims recovery?
I think we should invest in self-defense classes for seniors, not just rely on police.
Why waste resources on self-defense classes for seniors when we could improve police training and response times instead? Investing in community safety benefits everyone, not just a select group. Lets focus on solutions that address the root issues, not just individual tactics.
I wonder if the suspects were influenced by bad LRT vibes? 🚊🤔
Seriously? Blaming public transportation vibes for criminal behavior? Lets focus on the real issues at hand and not make ridiculous excuses. Its time to take responsibility for our actions instead of looking for scapegoats.
Do you believe in vigilante justice? Maybe the community should take matters into their own hands.
Vigilante justice is dangerous and undermines the justice system. Encouraging mob mentality is reckless and can lead to innocent people being hurt. Lets leave justice to the professionals and not take matters into our own hands.
I think we need to focus on prevention, not just punishment.
Prevention is key, but punishment is still necessary to hold people accountable for their actions. Without consequences, there is no deterrent. We need a balance of both to create a safer and more just society.
I wonder if harsher penalties for violent crimes would deter future attacks.
Cant believe they havent caught all the suspects yet! Whats taking so long?
Maybe the authorities are actually working diligently to gather solid evidence before making any arrests. Lets trust the process and not jump to conclusions. Investigations take time for a reason. Patience is key in these situations.
Why arent there more safety measures in place for public transportation incidents?
Why are some still defending the suspects? Unacceptable violence against seniors!
Its baffling how anyone could defend such heinous acts. Violence against seniors is despicable and inexcusable. Those perpetrators deserve no sympathy or justification. Its time to stand up for whats right and hold them accountable for their actions.
