Scotland’s controversial new hate crime laws have come into force – with a Holyrood minister saying people “could be investigated” for misgendering someone online.

First Minister of Scotland Humza Yousaf said the laws are needed to fight against the “rising tide of hatred”.

The new measures aim to tackle the harm caused by hatred and prejudice but have come under fire from opponents who claim they could stifle free speech and be weaponised to “settle scores”.

    😄funny title. Pretty sure the "rise in hatred" is BECAUSE of the stupid laws. They basically made "hate", in all levels of interpretation, by anyone, however vague or petty (or incorrect), a "crime" until further investigation! What did they expect? That everyone would suddenly become tame and timid, and keep their "hateful" views to themselves in fear of their neighbours and government? And utilise the new hate crime hotline responsibly and in the greatest of emergencies? … Yup. Apparently its not going too well.

    I'm a Snp voter since 2000 and a YES Campaigner for independence so as a voter this guy has put Scotland future in turmoil it'd over for the Snp this guy has been a fool since he's came into the party and I'll say it again if it's good for Boris Johnson to be charged then Humza needs to be charged am never right wing but I can say hes a racist and a disgrace to Scotland

    Its ironic that a guy that hates white people so much has the utter gall to talk about hate crime. His popularity has plummeted since this law and for him to say that anyone who hates the law is part of the "far right", is akin to a hate crime itself. To me far right is people who were in Germany in the 1940's. Its a disgusting slur against his own people and i for one used to be an SNP voter and i hate this law. What a fool he is.

    If he wants to pass laws policing all thought and speech, he should be held accountable under those laws for the pure unadulterated vitriol he regularly expresses toward white people. This clown has no business being in the Scottish government and he does not speak for any of us.

    Of course there is a rise in hatred. Humza has thrown out freedom and replaced it with hatred which will just go underground. I am deeply offended by Humza in this matter and find his approach to fueled by a great hatred on his part. I demand he be arrested and deported.
