The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has conducted targeted operations across various police divisions, leading to significant seizures. These operations took place within a 24-hour span and resulted in the discovery of three firearms, assorted ammunition, and other potentially criminal materials presumed to be for robberies.
In the first instance, the Western Division Gang and Intelligence Unit undertook an operation in the West End Police District from 10pm on a Friday to 5am the next day. Officers discovered various items, including a Glock magazine with 17 rounds of .9 mm ammunition, two tactical jackets, a firearm holster, gloves, a hat with the ‘POLICE’ symbol, and a camouflage ski mask on a basketball court in the Covigne Road, Diego Martin area. The investigation continues under PC Ramkripaul’s supervision.
In another operation in the North Eastern Division, officers conducted a stop and search exercise near a bar on Mt Lambert Road. Suspicions were aroused when a man at the bar was seen tossing an object in a plastic bag over a fence; the bag was retrieved and found to contain a Beretta pistol and seven rounds of ammunition. This led to the arrest of a 24-year-old man who was conveyed to Barataria Police Station.
Also, members of the South Western Division Task Force (SWDTF) performed an early morning intelligence-led anti-crime operation in Los Iros, South Western Division. They located a Glock 19 pistol with 17 rounds of ammunition at an unfenced scrap yard. The pistol was secured by WPC Vesprey for further investigation.
In the Northern Division-North, a roving exercise revealed another firearm and rounds of ammunition. At a hardware store in Arouca, officers identified a man and found a 9-mm pistol fitted with a magazine and 14 rounds of 9-mm ammunition upon searching him. The suspect is currently in police custody. Meanwhile, five rounds of 12-gauge cartridges were found in a Toyota Yaris on the South Trunk Road, Mosquito Creek, leading to the arrest of a 21-year-old man.
Furthermore, officers patrolling Icacos uncovered uncustomed goods in a vehicle during a search. The goods comprised of 13 buckets of cheese, 36 bottles of rum, and male clothing. Four individuals were taken into custody, with one Venezuelan suspect also being held for unlawful entry into the nation. The confiscated items were turned over to Customs and Excise. Investigations into these matters are ongoing.
