An 18-year-old man, Chase Daniel Jones, was arrested in Seattle, charged with four counts of vehicular homicide following a fatal four-car crash. The accident in the suburb of Renton resulted in the deaths of a woman and three children all in the same van. According to local jail records, Jones is currently being held in King County Correctional Facility with a bail set at $1 million.
The killed victims were identified as Andrea Smith Hudson (38), Matilda Wilcoxson (13), Eloise Wilcoxson and Boyd B. Brown – both 12. This information was released by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office. As of the time of reporting, no details regarding an attorney for Jones were listed in the jail records, nor did his case appear in the online King County court records for that Saturday.
Apart from the four deaths, additional casualties were reported. Four other individuals were taken to the hospital due to injuries sustained from the crash. Among the hospitalized victims were two of Hudson’s children who were also passengers in the van, their condition remained serious.
Jones himself did not escape the incident unscathed. He sustained injuries from the crash and had been under guard in the hospital until his discharge. Upon his release, he was immediately taken into custody. The specifics about the nature of his injuries or his current state of health have not been released to the public at this time.
The charges against Jones do not stop at vehicular homicide. He’s also facing two counts of vehicular assault and one count of reckless driving. The tragic incident brings a stark reminder of the consequence of reckless driving. It will be crucial to follow the case to learn about the size of the sentence awarded to Jones if found guilty.
