“BetterHelp” (once a prominent YouTube sponsor…) is making a comeback on the platform after 6 years, with a massive advertising push in the wake of newly forgotten scandals, and breaches of trust.

While some viewers may not remember the details about this company… that doesn’t change their track record, and it certainly does not mean that their business ethics have improved. Today I wanted to re-evaluate this company since it will be appearing on a lot peoples feeds with increasing frequency over the coming months.

I registered with BetterHelp with the intention of becoming a therapist, but I promptly removed my therapist profile. In my opinion, effective mental health treatment cannot be provided solely through text messaging. Additionally, the compensation offered to therapists is not adequate. When I signed up, the hourly rate was $30.

Almost every single Anthony Padilla video nowadays has better help as a sponsor
god, i thought for sure he was using the service with how much he talks about it

Nope. When my blocker needs an update I just don't come here until its fixed.

I refuse to watch a single one and haven't for nearly a decade.

After seeing my first "better help" 's commercial, I was super skeptical and was so correct huh! LoL

  • @pol4risyt July 4, 2024

6:00 its closer to about 5 times btw

  • @pookieluh July 4, 2024

    I miss u

  • @GonzalezSix67 July 4, 2024

I’d even take a Biden campaign ad over betterhelp ad. And that’s something wild.

  • @MagisterialVoyager July 4, 2024

I was almost falling for BetterHelp's trap when I was really vulnerable. These people are disgusting and need to face the consequences of their actions.

  • @KurvyKirby July 4, 2024

I have heard multiple accounts where their betterhelp "therapists" ghosted them, and after that I just knew it wasn't a good service

  • I believe this service is owned by Teladoc isn’t it? Which is another disgusting company. Because all their providers never prescribe medicine and for any little thing say you need to visit the emergency room. They collect over 50 dollars for the visit in my case. Then another 200 at the ER. Plus several more bills after services rendered.

Meaning for bronchitis I paid thousands to find out I’m just sick.

When I could have gone to an urgent care center for 30 bucks.

I almost got caught in this betterhelp scam. But I ran because their fee’s were through the roof. So I didn’t even get service.

    And cancelled my teladoc account.

    Both companies are horrible.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with telehealth. I’m a doctor, and I try to utilize telehealth visits when I can because it lets them follow up with me without having to take time off work which is important for some of them who need every dollar they earn.

I also refer military patients and dependents to a telehealth therapy service that is paid for by Tricare. I’m sure some people prefer in person visits, but the patients I have referred to this service (“Telemynd”) have had positive things to say about it. Being postpartum with an infant and often other kids makes going to weekly in person therapy appointments difficult and stressful. Being able to engage with a license therapist (unlike better help, telemynd actually makes sure the therapists they work with are licensed) in their bedroom is much less stressful and more convenient.

Don’t get me wrong, some things just require an in person visit and in my field that is most things. But there are things that can be handled with a telehealth visit and those can be very convenient for our patients.

    Otherwise great video.

We need to call out Anthony Padilla for supporting them so abundantly and consistently

  • @frostystoneman3273 July 4, 2024

I figur3d these guys were a crock. Most ppl i know in therapy are in a much worse state than i am by reading, listening, forgiving, exercising, sleeping well, hitting the sauna and keeping a good job. I have issues for sure but Betterhelp and others just take advantage of ppl in pain who dont know any better. Now many of these sad ppl are screwed no matter what but still they shouldn't be fleeced.

  • I love Hank Green's take on these things. My absolute favorite advertisements are the ones I will never fall for. Especially for politicians/companies who are awful. I LOVE making the algorithm think I'm interested and wasting their money!! Do you know how many trump and BeachBody ads I've seen? I've probably wasted thousands of their advertising dollars over the years, and I'm just one person 😊 makes me smile every time

  • @TheDuckmissile July 4, 2024

Luckily, even if some young people don't remember BetterHelp, most comment sections are full of people telling said channels to not accept sponsorships from them

  • @Dammit_Jae July 4, 2024

whenever I see a youtuber i sub to sponsor betterhelp
I tell them not to take the sponsor and tell them to do their research into the company
some listen so I stay while others
i lose all respect for them, unsub taking my view with it and warn others
it's not like my actions will make a difference
but when others do the same, they notice

  • @nightstar5077 July 4, 2024

Makes a critical video again better help with incogni as sponsor…. how stupid can you be?

  • @JaredJohnson-u6h July 4, 2024

I signed up for Better Help. They assigned me to people unqualified to treat me, repeatedly. No one except the therapists ever communicated with me when I asked what was going on, and the mental health professionals were just as baffled as I was by how badly it was being handled. I eventually, after a month of getting bounced around and no treatment, threatened to do a chargeback and got refunded. Ever since, I get genuinely angry when I see their ads because I just imagine other people going through that, possibly people that are in even worse shape than I was. Profiteering off of people's suffering like that is inexcusable. The owners should be thrown in prison for life.

  • @JamesR624 July 4, 2024

1:43. Not trying to argue but to me, usually when the action is "delete" or "remove" or "cancel", then "red to continue that action" makes sense. Whenever you delete a file or photo from the Files app or Photos app on iOS, the DELETE button is red, to denote that you are taking a, objectively speaking, "destructive" action. Even on non-corporate things, this UI paradigm holds true, like deleting a file from Dolphin File Manager on KDE on Linux.

  • @innercynic2784 July 4, 2024

Just like anything… when you constantly harp on "mental health" you actually generate those who believe they need…need…NEED! this so-called help. It's so irritating.

  • @CZghost July 4, 2024

MovieFlame does sponsorship with BetterHelp as well.

  • @Seafoamworks99 July 4, 2024

I'm pretty anti therapy in general since the whole institution is financially predatory and therapists often have their own unresolved crap they project onto the patient. But Better Help is just extra spicy bullshit.

  • @catstation. July 4, 2024

17:36:08 was one of the best moments

  • Thanks for making this video. I was actually considering Better Help again, after being unhappy with Talkspace.
