the gambling scandal widens

and Esther mcVey’s husband is sucked into the seedy undercurrent of cheap Conservative greed. “I’ve done nothing illegal,” he says but equally, he has done nothing to command our trust or commend his party.

The Conservative Party has become very good at atracting self-interested riff-raff. Everything has a best-before date.

  • @almafrith778 July 1, 2024

I can’t wait for the 6 days to be up Professor.
One has had more than enough campaigning
6 weeks has been too long.

Sunak bettered Starmer if you think they were brawling. Starmer was trying to raise the level of debate above the gutter, with no support from a very ineffective moderator who, typical BBC at the moment, was petrified of saying even a gentle 'boo' to the Tory goose.

  • @adblocker276 July 1, 2024

Constantly talking over someone and interrupting them doesn’t exactly make that half pant tosser “bettering Starmer (as woeful as he was at the debate).

  • @andypickett1 July 1, 2024

Icebergs that flow from the same glacier 🌻

  • @andrewthompson4433 July 1, 2024

I live in this entitled worms constituency. I have only seen one board up for him. There are many for Anna Dixon, the Labour candidate. He's not even trying.

  • @noahvale110 July 1, 2024

If the bookies are stupid enough to lay these types of bets then that is their problem.

The bookies hate to pay out winning bets and complain to the Gambling Commission over their own incompetence.

They are just another company that want to protect their bottom line and there is no doubt individuals are profiting from leaking this information as well.

  • @EnigmaStar153 July 1, 2024

    Speechless 😮

  • @grahampeters7297 July 1, 2024

What numbskull is giving these people odds?

  • @Gary-le7dz July 1, 2024

Sunak has just recorded his worst ever popularity rating at minus 55 , starmer his best for 2 years at minus 12 ….. last night debate between starmer and sunak or as Tim would call them starmer and Rishi was 50-50 from a poll taken , and another today gave starmer it by 53/47 ,

  • @philipgibbard304 July 1, 2024

Can I ask why gambling is allowed at all? Surely it damages everyone who bets? It should be prohibited, full stop.

  • @Loner-Wolf July 1, 2024

The only reason the PM did so well in his debate with Keir Starmer is because the BBC debate host did which a terrible job.

  • @robertmaitland8728 July 1, 2024

They lie in desperation because they have not got the guts to admit that they have all been caught out as distrustful liars, spreading far and wide from the PM to the weakest of MPs. We shall soon rejoice and count the record number of seats that have been lost in the Conservative Party when figures are released, and personally I could not give a hoot as who may win this election, but will be in great joy to hear of the demise of Conservatism for years to come with record losses which will go down in history as the most corrupt party ever to govern our country.

  • @anthonyclegg1511 July 1, 2024

    Greedy guts. 💩💩.

  • @jananders1351 July 1, 2024

Not moral, not ethical, not right, but entirely Tory. As indeed was little Rishi's shrill and petulant debate performance.

  • @stevieb6368 July 1, 2024

Mrs. T. will be turning cartwheels in her grave! The Lady is for turning…..over and over and over again! 'A cesspit of depravity!' Love it!

  • @MyTv- July 1, 2024

Are they honourable because the are above the law?

  • @preciousdevere288 July 1, 2024

I find it deplorable to think these people should be in Parliment. What a terrible example.

  • @DeanPickersgill July 1, 2024

Come now Tim, surely you know the Riches of Pilage is a right granted to a Brave Knight of the Realm! For goodness sake, compared to the Holy Wars the mans' barely blagged a packet of fags – and with all the fabulous Defending Of Us All he's done …

  • @iangascoigne8231 July 1, 2024

If you can call talking all over someone bettering them.

  • @user-wj7mi4zi3x July 1, 2024

If they think it’s right then we are dammed

  • @tpaul2866 July 1, 2024

I immediately thought 'what are the odds of more?' But as I'm not in politics I can think that.

  • @BrokenHill56 July 1, 2024

Betting as well as fiddling their income on flats in central London. Nice one Davis

  • @paulanaylor3548 July 1, 2024

Given Davies has been shilling for the gambling industry for the past few years, this does not surprise me.

  • @jamesscurr571 July 1, 2024

Is it true that Davis & Mcvay have a apartment Each in london, and what happens if they both lose their seats, with reference to the money for the properties ? .

  • @waltereaton6404 July 1, 2024

If the England players said that they had bet on losing, would that be illegal?

  • @georgemulcahy4515 July 1, 2024

    Another gambling plonker 😂

  • @willtricks9432 July 1, 2024

Are you watching the debates on a Valve set with the sound off? Sunak Lied and is a laughable debater.
They are not cashing in on the Election they are cashing in on limited access to information, that is the abuse of Power and Position.
The Cloud of deceit is over EVERY Tory candidate and spreads out to their families.
Sunak is a Disaster Capitalist, a Digital Mugger and he taints everything he touches, same as Johnson.
Observe the nation past and present and compare the results, in the future you will see this last 15 years taught in political science classes.

  • @markbullen5989 July 1, 2024

He knows he is going to lose. But what do you expect from a the son of a bookie. Plus isn’t that called “shorting the vote”.

  • @acrodave9287 July 1, 2024

Sigh, another day another crime. It's pointless to think in terms of morality, ethics or standards when talking about this foul crew; as far as they're concerned, they're only for little people. They have only two priorities: grabbing as much cash as they can by any means they see fit and not paying any taxes which again, are only for little people.
We've had pirates in charge for 14 years and the saddest thing is that we've become so used to crime being the accepted order of the day, it no longer looks like we can do any better.

  • @blink93221 July 1, 2024

Gb news presenter has no common sense. Sums up every presenter on that channel

  • @econundrum1977 July 1, 2024

I'm surprised it's not illegal to bet against yourself in a competition. After all if you can in anyway influence the outcome of a competition you shouldn't be allowed to bet on it. By the way I can't agree Sunak won the debate yesterday, he was rude, arrogant and told provable lies a number of times.

  • @peterdollins3610 July 1, 2024

Wrong. It is illegall and immoral. If Sunak did any better than Keir it was because it was fixed. Sunak was reading his answe prepped by the BBC or leaked. That the audience had to Read their questions from a card is at best dubious. The BBC rather than going to the format of audience and interviewer only each in turn that produced a far better debate chose to repeat their failed first debate format. A professor of journalism elucidated how Johnson had put his Tory people in to take over the BBC's Politics division two years ago. With other such takeovers in the country. 'Rob' was a Reform Plant. But yes Starmer 'is the best the country has' while Sunak 'is the worst.' See "Led By Donkeys' reveal of his and his wife's multiple corruptions. On Reform see ByLine Times '4 Questions for Farage' and their examination and Led by Donkeys exam of Farage's history. Absolutely sure this 'Profossor' is a Tory prerending to be even handed–he is not. Also give his game away in the vile Far Right, racist, homo-phobic trans-phobic people he respects even admires. His pretence of no longer supporting these figures–when he does–of Brexit is false to the back-teeth. .

  • @steverichmond7142 July 1, 2024

Betting against yourself is illegal in every sport I know

  • @Gerrygambone July 1, 2024

Forget Stop the Boats…….Stop the Bets

  • Davies' bet, whether it was to win or lose, is obviously not illegal, nor is there any question of it not being ethical or moral. He was not privy to privileged information.
Such bets are private, so had there not been the bets placed on the date of the election and investigations, no one would have known or cared about Davies.
One can certainly make a judgement about the wisdom of doing such a thing, given that his action might have come out eventually and been judged adversely.
There is always a strong likelihood of individuals, politicians, the media, etc taking a pompous, hypocritical, self-righteous stance where it suits them and/or their employer, but it is risible for politicians to be held to subjective standards that the ordinary citizen isn't.
The ordinary citizen conveniently "forgets" about his own misdemeanors, such as continuously raiding the stationery cupboard, padding expenses for all they are worth, taking "sickies" to suit, driving "slightly" over limit, "inadvertently" speeding to suit, accepting overpayments in change, overclaiming on insurance cover, lying whenever it is expedient – the list is endless!

  • No one has mentioned the odds that they stand to gain or indeed have probably already been paid out as anybody can place a bet really.

  • @user-dv7pt4kl7u July 1, 2024

Professor, further thoughts on the gambling scandal. I suppose we should be greatful that instead of trying to enrich themselves by wagering on the outcome of a race for poor dumb animals. Whereas they are wagering on the outcome of well paid/rich dumb wannabe mp's

  • Surely it is the same as insider dealing which I thought it was illegal. £8k bet is also laughing at the British Public who often do not even have that to live on for a year. Not fit to hold their jobs sack them all – and prevent them from being involved in anything really.

  • @dougtsax July 1, 2024

Sunak just shouted Starmer down. Is that the sort of PM we want? No. That's all Penny Mordant had as well, shouting down Angela Rayner.

  • @terrymann1341 July 1, 2024

Sunak and his cohorts are mired in the stink and the stench of scandal and corruption, This Government has behaved as if they're in the movie "Wall St" where "greed is good". A week from now they will be gone, a footnote in the history of British politics. Phillip Davies is another non entity who next week will hopefully will be gone, his snout no longer in the trough and hopefully so will his wife.

  • @wattyler6075 July 1, 2024

As Trump said in 2016,we need to drain the swamp.

  • @WATTSROBIN July 1, 2024

Sorry Tim, he didn't better Keir Starmer. He showed his real self…arrogant, petty and childish, and an out and out liar.
