Three men, Jermaine Evans, 22, Dexter Duncombe Jr, 25, and Andre Gittens, 43, were granted bail after being accused of stealing over $8,000 worth of construction equipment. The charge was leveled by Magistrate Kendra Kelly who accused the trio of stealing and receiving. The theft reportedly occurred between November 1, 2023, and January 23 from the Complete Construction Company at Renaissance Village on Carmichael Road.
Despite the serious allegations, all three defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. Their trial is slated to commence on June 25th. Pending the trial, the court granted each of the accused bail to the tune of $3,000 amidst no objections.
Under the terms of the bail, the accused are required to sign in at their respective local police stations every Wednesday by 7 pm. This condition is likely meant to ensure the defendants’ continued presence within the jurisdiction and to discourage potential absconding considering the gravity of the allegations made against them.
The accusation of theft levelled against the trio relates to construction equipment valued at $8,970. It is notable that the bail amount set for each defendant — $3,000 — is significantly less than the value of the equipment they stand accused of stealing. The commencement of their trial in the near future will determine the veracity of these accusations and subsequently the fate of the accused men.
Until their trial begins and a definitive conclusion can be drawn, the accused will continue to adhere to the court’s strict bail conditions. Whether or not the charges against the men hold up, will be seen when their trial commences on the 25th of June.
