  Based on my personal experience living in these states:

  Mississippi is fine if you live in Rankin County. Low crime rate and great mayors keeping it very clean as well. Low cost of living there as well and is great for retirees.

  Oklahoma is fine if you live any where but Tulsa which is the absolute crime capital of the state. You must cherry pick best location for the lowest local taxes (example: not Bartlesville with very high property taxes).

  Arkansas is fine if you live in North Little Rock. Not a great state retirement wise economically speaking.

  Louisiana is fine outside of New Orleans (crime capital of the state with extremely poor leadership to enhance crime) and Alexandria. I would recommend living there in rural areas only if you decided to retire there as there are no decent jobs in the entire state. State is losing population daily to neighboring states with no jobs beyond the usual $10/hr ones with no benefits.

  Kansas: They tax everything including social security. New car tags on average vehicle will cost >$1200 first year and start afterwards a slow decline. Most everyone drives 10 year or older vehicles as a result. If you win a jackpot at the casino in Oklahoma, you pay 5% to both Oklahoma and Kansas (10% total). One of the worst retirement states.

  Virginia: Best place to live is Campbell County with the lowest tax rates in the state. Northern half has a very high cost of living.

  Texas: Best place to live in the DFW region is Tarrant County with lower taxes/insurance rates. #1 rule is do not live in Dallas County with super high crime.

  Low crime rate my eye. Meth crimes, hate crimes, and corporate manslaughter in Kentucky isn't reported because the sheriffs are corrupt
