Two Individuals Accused of Making $40K Charges on Alabama School System’s Gas Cards

Two men, Samuel Kieran Booker and Dy-Kerius Rushuan Allen, have been arrested in Decatur for allegedly making $40,000 worth of unauthorized transactions with school system gas cards. Both men have been charged with fraudulent use of a credit or debit card, having turned themselves into police in early March. Booker was detained in the Morgan County Jail on a $1,000 bond, while Allen was placed on a $2,000 bond.

The case emerged following a report filed in February by Decatur City Schools officials. The report detailed unauthorized transactions on multiple gas cards going all the way back to May 2021. It appears the alleged fraudulent transactions were tracked and linked to both Booker and Allen, thrusting the case into official investigations.

Interestingly, the two accused men were formerly employed by the system but had resigned in April 2021. Investigators contend that soon after their resignation, they started using the gas cards that were designated for school system vehicles. It is unclear just how the former employees held onto the gas cards after their alleged exit from the school system.

According to the police accounts, the total charges resulting from the illicit use of these gas cards exceeded $40,000. The investigation into the matter seems to suggest that the culprits had systematically and consistently been using these cards for nearly a year before authorities were prompted to intervene.

The case isn’t quite closed yet and has been escalated to the Morgan County District Attorney’s Office. This indicates possible consideration for additional charges. Meanwhile, officials from the school system assure that proactive measures have been instituted to avert similar unauthorized access and charges in the future.
