In alignment with World Water Day on March 22, the Water and Sewage Company Inc. (WASCO) carried out various initiatives to underline the importance of sustainable management of water. Aligned with the theme “Water for Peace”, the company intended to give prominence to the nexus of water, conflict, and collaboration, and emphasized water conservation. The primary target of these initiatives was to spread awareness, particularly among the younger generation, about the need for water conservation, thereby inspiring habits that aid in persevering this critical resource.
A significant program WASCO introduced was the preschool conservation education campaign in Castries North. The campaign hoped to enlighten young minds about the necessity of water conservation, inculcate smarter water usage habits, and kindle a sense of responsibility among the youth. This initiative was created with a long term perspective to nurture lifelong water-saving habits and create a new generation of conservationists.
To further boost this educational drive, WASCO also held a World Water Day Expo at its head office. The expo offered diversified insights into the services provided by various WASCO departments and organized a plethora of fun and educational activities revolving around water.
As per WASCO’s statement, the selection of this year’s theme unfolds the increasing pressures on our water resources, courtesy of climate change and other factors. WASCO stressed the need to confront water security in the event of environmental changes and favored the execution of strategies to alleviate negative impacts.
To provide tangible solutions, WASCO unveiled an exclusive sale of various kinds of locally manufactured storage tanks on World Water Day. The tanks are anticipated to play a crucial part in promoting sustainable practices and conserving the island’s water resources.
