A recent Georgia’s Supreme Court ruling could have dire implications for judge Ural Glanville, who is presiding over the YSL Rico case.
Judge Glanville made headlines on June 10th, 2024, when he and YSL attorney Brian Steele had a confrontation in court. Steel accused Glanville of holding a secret meeting with sworn witness woody Copeland and the prosecution. Glanville held This so-called ex parte meeting without first informing the defense, resulting in steel calling Glanville out.
Glanville admitted to holding the ex parte meeting and insisted that it was appropriate. But now a ruling from the Georgia Supreme Court on another matter may foreshadow that not only was Glanville wrong, but that the sanctions for his actions could possibly be severe.
At issue is judge Christina Peterson, who the Georgia Supreme Court removed from her post on June 25th, 2024. Peterson went viral after she was caught on police body camera in a wild video in which she appeared disheveled and agitated, apparently following an altercation at an Atlanta area night spot. During the video Peterson allegedly assaulted a police officer.
Before the events that made her national headlines, Peterson was already facing several accusations of professional misconduct and was subject to disciplinary proceedings by the Georgia Supreme Court. One of the instances of professional misconduct for which Peterson went before the state’s high court, involved an ex parte communication, similar to that which the YSL attorneys accuse Glanville of conducting.
