Lucknow Super Giants defeated Punjab Kings by 21 runs in their Indian Premier League match, thanks to a standout performance by debutant express bowler Mayank Yadav. Yadav took three wickets in three overs, limiting Punjab to 178-5 despite a century opening partnership. Lucknow posted a total of 199-8, with Quinton de Kock, Nicholas Pooran, and Krunal Pandya making significant contributions with the bat. Yadav, who missed the last IPL season due to injury, impressed with his searing pace, clocking 155.8 kph.
The opening partnership between captain Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow gave Punjab a quick start, but Yadav’s impressive bowling derailed their chase. He dismissed Bairstow, Prabhsimran Singh, and Jitesh Sharma in quick succession, putting the asking run rate out of Punjab’s reach. Medium-pacer Mohsin Khan then removed Dhawan and Sam Curran in consecutive balls in the 17th over, sealing the victory for Lucknow. Despite Curran’s 3-28, Pooran and Pandya’s aggressive hitting in the final overs proved crucial for Lucknow.
De Kock’s 54 off 38 balls set the tone for Lucknow’s innings, with Pooran and Pandya providing the finishing touches. Pooran smashed three sixes and three fours in his quickfire knock, while Pandya remained unbeaten after hitting two sixes and four boundaries. Punjab’s bowlers struggled to contain the duo in the latter stages of the innings, conceding 74 runs in the last seven overs. Lucknow secured their first win in two matches, while Punjab suffered their second loss in three games.
Yadav’s impressive debut performance earned him praise for his raw pace and ability to trouble batsmen. Lucknow’s victory was a team effort, with contributions from both bat and ball. The win will boost their confidence going forward in the tournament, while Punjab will look to regroup and bounce back from their defeat. The IPL continues to provide exciting matches and impressive individual performances, showcasing the talent and skill on display in the world’s premier T20 league.
