I was sex trafficked for years. Brothels are hidden in plain sight. | Casandra Diamond | TEDxToronto

Sex trafficking may be happening behind the walls of businesses you pass daily – including the some of the massage parlours and holistic centres in your community. Casandra Diamond shares a harrowing story of her experience inside these modern day brothels: in this raw and honest talk, learn about the systemic issues that enable businesses to operate in plain sight and how you can help to advocate for change. Casandra is the founding director of BridgeNorth, a survivor-led charitable organization that provides programs to assist victims of sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Her work includes investing in public education, awareness, and advocacy at all levels of government including supporting Bill C-36 which is now law as the Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at

I'm having trouble following this story. I'm trying to see how A led to B led to C, but all I hear is a bunch of assertions and little evidence. Redefining everything without evidence or story. Maybe if we got an entire story with details it would make sense

  • @Trizzer89 June 20, 2024

The number one red flag is attempting to separate you physically or emotionally from others. Most people fall for this. We are too quick to blame others for our problems and self-isolate

  • @gulliver7419 June 20, 2024

We need to bring down the patriarchy, it's the root of so much abuse and pain.

  • @thebolokingg June 20, 2024

Did bish Is playing an actress role. Making money pulling on the heartstrings of people. If he was human traffic she should not speak such perfect English

  • @MaysaSandahl June 20, 2024

I feel horrible right now. In my class a couple of months ago there was this girl talking about this 35 year old guy, and how he was a pimp, and how he wanted her to "work" for him. She's 18. I don't know why I didn't do anything. It seemed the guy was painting the picture in a very nice and harmless way, and she was telling me about it in the way he explained it to her, for some reason I didn't consider that he could be lying or manipulating. As soon as I can I'm going to contact my school's women's health center. I have so many regrets right now. She was talking about how he wanted to take her to Las Vegas!! LAS VEGAS!!! How did I not see that was weird!?!

  • Hier in Deutschland hat man neue Tak-Tiken. Sie bauen Dir Wanzen und Minikameras ein, zerstören alle Dinge von Dir und wollen Dich so erpressen.
    Look Gangstalking and TI !

This is heartbreaking. I’m 100 percent supportive in my wife’s vision to help women like this!

I think a good way perhaps to see things might be … For the amount of therapy needed & way this kind of abuse can affect someone for life all that needs asking is this worth the cost? Creating Trauma is a huge cost to society especially normalising re-traumatising victims of abuse. There is no dignity in any part of that picture.

It takes much more to check someone is ok & help give them adequate support, the support they need than treat them as less than human, overworked underpaid objects.
Is that really how these people feel about women? Or people? Need to stop seeing divides. There is no difference between a human being made into a machine or a human who has been treated better in life they are still human.

These are people, some of the most vulnerable in society according to mental health & the way these people are treated. There is nothing admirable about exploiting & hurting other human beings & profiting off the back of it, most especially when it’s happening to these women (a reminder- people).

If you want to display more care & consideration towards others there are more ways to do this than attempting to use people as objects or any position of authority to abuse others.

If you wish to gain true respect, least not of women then treat them & other people well & with kindness not second rate citizens.

I hope people don’t think hurting & traumatising others doesn’t matter or ignoring this is ok anymore. Only because as more survivors come out & voice the traumatising impacts it’s clearly not.

Maybe as a culture we are at fault because we have normalised the impacts of trauma & ignored the help we & people need & that can be for anyone…

Those who are at risk of being abused need protecting & it’s time people stepped up to help create just more awareness around how trauma inevitably in whichever form is destructive & destroying each other & community.

We just need to start coming back to humanity… We are all human & need to start looking out for each other especially in terms of health & wellbeing. How else will we manage to create a better world for ourselves & future generations if it wasn’t through the changes we as a species need to start making.

That might be the greatest legacy anyone could leave behind with a little imagination on how to create healthier ways of interacting & building connections with each other from now on.

They be in social work, education

  • @mousaresen7550 June 20, 2024

    God bless you.

  • @PoppoFitz June 20, 2024

Hello Houston… What are you actually doing to solve this other than waiting for the next annual exposé in the Houston Chronicle and pretending you care?

  • @johnnygood4831 June 20, 2024

You pointed out the biggest part of the problem. Our politicians are corrupt, and our cops are corrupt, so nothing will be done. I'm glad you made it out in one piece.

  • @ocdraridrogonel June 20, 2024

What this woman is saying to combat this, literally makes no sense. It's like a female approach to end hunger. No plan no way to fix it just a general feeling of needing something to be done….

  • @ChrisMalan-qf8oz June 20, 2024

You are powerful and courage. So that other women can believe that they can break free and heal as well. Thank you!

  • @1Tibs1 June 20, 2024

I want men to stand up; there’s more men out there then women and girls.

  • @frankvizen5480 June 20, 2024

Comparing this to slavery is pretty absurd

  • @tylerlong4696 June 20, 2024

So she made all this money and is being a professional victim now 🤡

  • @bkjboo June 20, 2024

The father/son slime team on Bourbon Street, Rick and Billy A assists were human trafficers!!!

  • @adventureinlife7700 June 20, 2024

Our society has failed girls and women in so many ways. There is no way that these brothels are not known by the local police. And yet the system allows these nightmare businesses to continue and even thrive. City officials that allow these businesses to exist should be removed from their government jobs and never allowed to work for any city ever again.

  • @andyschultz6956 June 20, 2024

How do we protect our girls? How can this happen?

  • @Hoppenoffer June 20, 2024

Canada is a follower on many fronts. The best thing we have is anti-Americanism. It goes and we are the USA. Please stand on guard against anything American including anti trans.✌️❤️

  • Thank you ❤

  • @QueenJaneway June 20, 2024

I'm glad Canada have the same law as us, but now we have the same problem.. using it

  • @bellesterbeatty3571 June 20, 2024

I am so sorry. In high school, my friend went into prostitution. We were shocked! We stayed friends, and I found out later that she was kidnapped and beaten into doing what she did. It was NOT by choice. She was told to keep her mouth shut. And the poor girl did to protect her family.

  • @Thecrows_eye June 20, 2024

    Lies

  • @JoanneStep June 20, 2024

Listening to and dealing with the trafficked "victims" as a volunteer, I notice the need for all of us and parents to learn to say "No" from a very early age. The society like pleasers and encourage us, especially girls and women to be ones. We don't need to please others. We need to have good and strong self-esteem. It involves more no's than yes's.

  • @elliotpoco7539 June 20, 2024

Her story is made up and fake. I saw so many women fabricate stories just for attention, she isnt an exception.

  • @MrJohnnybe123 June 20, 2024

Why do some people say they want to be trafficked ..

  • @BrandonKratz-ey5qd June 20, 2024

It sucks when you know the people who are supposedly exploiting you are being exploited way worse

  • @earthangel7253 June 20, 2024

I swear all ted talks are is just an attention seeking contest

  • @carlitarose8921 June 20, 2024

My story but in stripclubs 😢trafficked at age 16 for many many years. By a “boyfriend” aka pimp. Thank you for sharing ❤❤❤❤❤

  • @paulhoward979 June 20, 2024

You’re a wonderful & very gifted woman! Thank you so much for your truth & leading the way to a better existence for many! God bless you ❤❤❤

  • @dibaz1 June 20, 2024

I wonder how she broke away from these pimps??
I wonder what she does today?

If only someone gave her guidance to get a normal day job and work her way up, whether it were working in a restaurant, a hotel or an office?? 🤷🏼‍♂️🤔

  • @tamirhayat June 20, 2024

the society, have to impower and respect women, and hunt the abusers like in a day of war, every man needs to recall that he has a mother and she is a woman, moreover gave him life. the police needs to be more active and don't wait until complaining.
sorry to hear your story, there are good ppl in the world, don't be despaired.
    keep on fighting.
may god bless you and change your life to be better forever.

  • @ellaella5537 June 20, 2024

2 million a year in revenues with 68 girls working is nothing. It should be pretty easy for Revenu Canada to figure it out.
Under 2 M declared a year would mean there were no profits.
I mean, we could start there or perhaps legalizations is the answer

  • @citysurvivor4919 June 20, 2024

    Boycott facebook

  • Are strppers coerced into stripping?

  • @sunnylilacs June 20, 2024

My dad was a bishop and would sometimes have to talk with individual church members about worthiness. He obviously never shared any identifying info but just told us he will never use a massage parlor because people who had come to him experiencing fidelity issues had often started in the wrong direction with something as seemingly innocent as a massage, learning to enjoy the touch of someone who was not their spouse.

  • @bibi5308 June 20, 2024

    🌹♥️

  • @MargaretCampbell583 June 20, 2024

The men in our community allow this to happen. They don’t care

  • @MargaretCampbell583 June 20, 2024

Same in Australia. So many are here and nobody cares

  • @MargaretCampbell583 June 20, 2024

I didn’t feel wanted for anything other than my body

  • @MonaU-iy3ji June 20, 2024

Thank you Casandra Diamond. I do similar work and you Inspire me with direction. You are making a difference.
