Many of you asked for this credit freezing video in February & I actually taped this pre-Silicon-Valley-Bank meltdown, but am only now getting around to sharing it with all of you. Enjoy & thanks for your patience!

    Thank you

  • @np4191 June 28, 2024

Freezes are very good to have in place. But you should aslo explain idenity the importance of have identity protection in place as well. Also, the benefit of insurance with idenity protection. Freezes do not protect against idenity theft.

  • @user-tx6gs2my2v June 28, 2024

Your content and explanation are awsome. Thank you so much!!

  • @kamalbora June 28, 2024

thank you. I am an expert and can tell you that you were amazing. However just wanted to inform you that experian website changed the way to freeze credit report. Instead of clicking on protection tab you have to click on help tab to get the option to freeze or unfreeze your account

  • @jaeminkim7406 June 28, 2024

    ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

  • @savvystacker9552 June 28, 2024

Hi Jen! I have an extended fraud alert at all 3 credit reporting agencies. I thought that would suffice. However, over the weekend I was notified by email via my credit monitoring service (through my bank) that I had a new inquiry on my credit report. I had not applied for any credit, so I knew something was amiss. Turns out someone applied for a credit card in my name (with my OWN bank, to boot).

Thank you so much for this video! I am going to put a freeze on all 3 of my credit reports. The stress of dealing with my (identity) information being compromised and/or fraudsters attempting to use it, over and over again, the last 10 years has taken its toll. I need the peace of mind. Thank you for keeping us informed, and for continuing to provide crucial education that all can benefit from.

  • Thank you so much for this informative and very helpful video. I really appreciate that you share this information.

  • @karonsanchez3551 June 28, 2024

How can I find out if I have anything in my in my

  • @leticiamartinez3106 June 28, 2024

It is really hard, we are the victims if fraud and identity theft. We froze our credit and they were still able to call and unfreeze it. They have to have better and more restricted laws. We file a police report, file a report with the FTC. We are not getting any help and we are still being targeted.

  • @RogerArm231 June 28, 2024

    Thanks!

  • @PGB-ni1ji June 28, 2024

All of this should be in place by default instead of consumers being at risk so agencies can make money off of us. "Credit Locks" are just another money making tool. Go right for the freeze.

  • @cesarebeccaria7641 June 28, 2024

Thanks for this clarification. I didn't really know the difference between a freeze and lock. I have frozen access to all three reporting agencies. They did imply there would be a charge for unfreezing, although the one time we unfroze one agency's report for a Chase Amazon Visa, there was no charge.

  • @SteveWaage June 28, 2024

Jennifer that was a lot of work on your part for us… bless your soul! Thank you.

  • @richardc2333 June 28, 2024

As I understand it, auto insurance (and maybe others like homeowners insurance companies) check your credit each renewal as a part of underwriting. Is there a reasonable (i.e. free) way to allow this while your credit is frozen and/or otherwise protect yourself from bad actors?

  • Thanks for the good explaination. I had to establish a credit freeze back during covid due to idenity theft. Someone trying to sign up for unemployment insurance using my name and id. I want to buy a car over the next 1-2 years and will need to temp unfreeze.

  • @cocolola007 June 28, 2024

there’s also something called chexsystems and i think it’s for your bank deposit and checking history and info. i think you can put a freeze and fraud alert also….

  • @MI-6e June 28, 2024

I've had my credit frozen with all the agencies since the Equifax breach. The annoying thing with Experian are the endless emails to sign up for their paid service.

  • @ppumpkin3282 June 28, 2024

Here's an important world of advice. If you freeze you account usually you will get a "pin" to freeze/unfreeze. Don't lose your pin. The rules for reissuing pins are pretty strict. You can'd do it over the phone or via the internet. You usually have to make a written request and wait for a new pin in the mail.

  • @rubbersoulboy June 28, 2024

This is much better than paying for identity theft protection.

  • @mfh9780 June 28, 2024

    Excellent! Thanks for this video.

  • @sneakypeo June 28, 2024

This is important, everyone should freeze all 3. Unfreeze when needed

  • @tinarhodes4188 June 28, 2024

Froze my credit and hubby's about 15 years ago due to possible fraud. I received a letter in the mail, someone was trying to open an account at Walmart in my name but thankfully they were denied. Several insurance companies and several other companies advised that our personal information was compromised so we did that out of an abundance of caution. At that time it was $30 for each company freeze. Probably should create online accounts now… back then you had to do it on the phone..

  • @darrylr.4983 June 28, 2024

In late 2016 someone tried to take out several loans in my name. None were successful thou. I then froze my credit with all 3 agencies and have kept it that way since then. I had the paid Experian credit monitoring service and I could unfreeze credit with a phone call however when we got the 4 years of free credit monitoring in that lawsuit settlement I switched back to the free service. A heck of a lot better than the five bucks and change folks got from the cash settlement.

  • @BorisLikesBonds June 28, 2024

I've had my identity plenty of times. In some cases, I received a credit card requested by the thief, which already had charges on it. They just wanted the number to buy stuff with. Sometimes I would receive letters saying "my application was denied". What application?! Each time I had to call the issuing bank and report fraud. I bought a year of Norton LifeLock and that helped a lot but one or two slipped through. After the year was over, I decided to manage my own freezes. It's super easy, just like you showed here. Then almost everything stopped. No surprise letters, no surprise credit cards. The only thing that happens every now and then is a fraudulent charge and my bank catches that instantly. How can I buy McDonald's in one moment and then 2 minutes later have my card used in India to buy cosmetics?? Nope. Freeze your credit, folks!

  • @boblyn4402 June 28, 2024

Thank you. This reminder really hit home, since I was just hit with credit card fraud. Luckily my bank caught it and denied every attempted charge. It was really very easy. Now to the other 2.👍

  • @michaelminauro4180 June 28, 2024

    Good stuff

  • @nancydunn2620 June 28, 2024

Twice someone tried to open a Kohls credit account in my name, thank goodness my credit was frozen!! I had received a letter from Kohls asking me to lift my credit freeze so they could check my credit. I put a fraud alert out to the store and my banks.

  • @davidpowell3347 June 28, 2024

Equifax was hardest to freeze, online didn't work because it kept saying "invalid e mail address" even though I typed it correctly.
There were 2 or 3 different phone numbers that I found, the one on the website didn't work,I used one from the document that came from my retirement account provider that warned that my Social Security number along with my name and address had probably been "accessed by a malicious actor",that phone # had me going round and round with a robot, but yelling at the phone finally elicited a live person who at first insisted that I had to have a cell phone (I do not) but finally e-mailed me a secret number which I read back to him from the laptop screen and he announced that the freeze was placed
They mail you another secret number for unfreezing the credits, Otherwise someone could pose as you to unfreeze the credit so that they can take out bank products in your name.

  • @cindyfendler6315 June 28, 2024

Thank you so much for the great information! Someone tried to file a tax return and another person opened up a credit card by using my info a few years ago so I froze my credit on all 3 agencies. I would have never known how to unfreeze it without upgrading by just clicking on the experian logo. Thanks for walking us through all of the steps. I really appreciate all of the great info that you share on your videos!

  • @wildzeke June 28, 2024

Thank Jenn. I was a victim of identity theft. The person tried to open a business credit card with my name and SS. The bank, which was the same as my personal credit card account, blocked it. I froze my credit at all three bureaus. I also put a pin at the IRS for my federal taxes. My question is do I need to go an extra step and put a freeze at the ChexSystems?

  • @cj90014 June 28, 2024

My wife and I discovered freezing your credit(on all 3 bureaus) about 10-12 years ago. Best thing we have ever done. We sleep well knowing no one can get debt in our name/SS#- which is the issue with stolen ID. I have told so many people, So few have done it. Oh we, can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him . . . . .

  • @irenesteen9243 June 28, 2024

sorry, jennifer, this is something else. how do you view the marcus cd offer of 5.05% for 10 month????

  • @taloweryus June 28, 2024

Thanks, Jenn. Another super useful video. I just followed along as you went through the steps, and, voila, my credit is now frozen with experian. I feel safer already! Next stop equifax and transunion. Can't wait!

  • @amir2512 June 28, 2024

It is important to note that if you place a security freeze through Experian, only your Experian credit file will be frozen, and Experian does not have the ability to freeze your TransUnion or Equifax credit files.

  • Wish I could've froze my ex-wife's credit…before she was my EX-wife.

  • @mkbrown3902 June 28, 2024

    Thank you so much.

  • @vivisimonvi June 28, 2024

An important thing more people should know is that you should be using your credit card instead of your debit card. Regarding fraud, if you have fraudulent charges on your debit card, YOU have to fight to get YOUR money back but with a credit card, the BANK will fight to get THEIR money back. This is also assuming you never carry a credit card balance.

  • @GCW23 June 28, 2024

How long do I need to unfreeze my account when I am applying for a new credit card? How many days?

  • @traxmom June 28, 2024

Can’t you freeze your credit and also place a fraud alert? I feel like I’ve done this in the past.

  • I recently got my email hacked by an old credit card and got a year of credit monitoring from Experian. I already have a fraud alert but I think I will freeze. Thanks so much for the info, I did not realize it was so simple!

  • @JC-li8kk June 28, 2024

Opening a checking account in my name…for purposes of laundering money/tax evasion? Does this mean there’s a chance I’m a millionaire & don’t even know it? Lol.

  • @Thisishard2333 June 28, 2024

Very easy to lock/ freeze accounts. Tried to open a cd with Langley federal credit union and they wanted to check my credit . (Don’t know why?).Used my pin, said it was open for 24 hrs. Never opened. No cd. Got my cd at the bank. Took the money no credit check
