The seizure of more than 27 kg of cocaine in a west Edmonton home marks the largest haul of the drug by the local branch of the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT). Along with approximately 5 kg of MDMA, the drugs seized have an estimated street value of around $3 million, according to a news release from ALERT on Monday. The search warrant was executed at a residence in the Lewis Estates neighbourhood on April 30, leading to the seizure of the drugs.
In addition to the large quantity of cocaine and MDMA, ALERT also confiscated nearly four kilograms of a suspected cocaine buffing agent, $19,000 in cash, and evidence of drug trafficking at the west Edmonton home. This seizure, which was part of a larger investigation into organized crime activity in the Edmonton area, was conducted in collaboration with the Edmonton Police Service and the RCMP. Following the seizure, one individual was arrested, and the investigation is ongoing to uncover more details about the drug trafficking operation.
Notably, this recent cocaine seizure in Edmonton is not the first of its kind in the city. The largest cocaine seizure in Edmonton’s history occurred in October of the previous year, when city police seized 40.5 kg of cocaine during a traffic stop. Charges related to that case were recently dropped. Prior to that, in August 2013, city police seized 28 kg of cocaine in a drug operation. The escalation in drug seizures highlights the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and organized crime in the Edmonton area, with law enforcement agencies working tirelessly to combat illegal drug activity.
Residents who suspect drug or gang-related activities in their communities are encouraged to report their concerns to local law enforcement authorities or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Crime Stoppers offers an anonymous platform for reporting criminal activities, providing valuable information to law enforcement agencies. ALERT, a specialized law enforcement team supported by the Alberta Government, brings together the province’s top resources to combat organized crime and drug trafficking operations, ensuring the safety and security of communities in Alberta.
In conclusion, the recent significant cocaine seizure in a west Edmonton home underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking and organized crime in the area. The collaboration between ALERT, the Edmonton Police Service, and the RCMP has led to the arrest of suspects and the disruption of illegal drug operations. By encouraging community members to report suspicious activities and providing anonymous reporting options through Crime Stoppers, authorities aim to gather crucial information to tackle criminal activities effectively. The commitment of law enforcement agencies and the support of the community are essential in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and organized crime in Edmonton and across Alberta.
