A woman who claims she was sexually assaulted by a senior member of the royal family of the United Arab Emirates has told this programme she fled the country as soon as she could.

In her first television interview, Caitlin McNamara said she was in the UAE and was meeting Sheikh Nahyan as part of her job as curator of the Hay literary festival.

But she claims that she suffered a serious sexual assault. With little hope of prosecution in the UAE, she now wants the British government to intervene.

Lawyers for the Sheikh have denied the allegations.

    I am not surprised at all about these allegations. It is not a secret that UAE senior sheikhs have indulged in this type of behaviour for a long time.

    RAFI WAS IN CASTRO VALLEY IN SAN FRANCISCO & then POLK STREETS. BOTH TIMES CAR BROKE DOWN…DROPPED MY ID CARD & driver LICENSE,,,NEVER BOTHERED TO PICK IT,,,BECAUSE DID NOT WANTED TO BEND OVER ( too many GAY BARS ),,,took cable car once ten minutes walk was over,,,,,,,SO HAPPY,,,,NOT GET POKED WITH PINGAA,,,

    Before it got that far, act sick. Say you're going to through up, get to the bathroom, make yourself disshevelled, tell them you have "woman's problems" and they will take you home real fast. I'm not victim blaming, I'm offering a suggestion for other women because that tactic worked once for me.

    I am abit shocked as S.N. was my direct minister when I was working in a college in the UAE. I also have met him on some social occasions and events. I am just shocked…we saw him as the good guy among them!

    If anyone go near to sun, without proper protection you will be burned to ashes,,, but i dont understand,,, the sheikhs will get thousands of females in all ages, if they wish from all over the world,,, As far i know this sheikh is a very good , God fearing sheikh,, with Good manners, knowledge and wisdom,, even if sheikh liked her, he would only request her for intimate relationship,,,, and if she is not willing or interested,sheikh wont force her,,,, thats my feeling,,,if i have or i can have thousands of sheeps of diffrent breeds,, do anyone Rob a sheep of someone,,, even he wants he will ask the owner of the sheep,, and will give a very high value in cash or goods to the owner of the sheep,,,, thats logical,,,,, any way very sorry about this allegation,,, god bless be blessed
