Supreme Court upholds ban on domestic abusers owning guns

The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday upheld a federal law that prohibits people under domestic violence restraining orders from having guns.

The 8-1 decision (Justice Clarence Thomas dissented) keeps in place a 1994 ban on firearms for people under restraining orders to stay away from their spouses or partners. The justices reversed a ruling from the federal appeals court in New Orleans striking down the law.

Advocates argued that removing guns in domestic abuse cases is one of the most effective actions you can take to protect victims of domestic violence. Gun rights supporters countered that people under protection orders haven’t been convicted of a crime, thus taking their firearms away violates the Second Amendment.

Anless that god forsaken country replaces its fascist constitution it will not fix anything. I'm glad Europe is slowly starting to realize this and less and less people take the U.S. seriously.

  • @HailTheFun June 28, 2024

Does this also apply to cops? Because over 40% of them are domestic abusers.

    God bless America

The founders of this country created the bill of rights including the 2nd amendment because they are absolute birth rights. The founders, the 2nd amendment is the commonsense gun law. A well-regulated militia, the military Is to be regulated so the military stays under civilian control and management. The right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, no law shall be enacted to limit or control the right of the citizens to own and carry arms. The founders warned against people like these socialists who will try to take that away and then tyranny will follow.

Having a gun in the house IS domestic abuse.

  • @OriginalLoadedDice June 28, 2024

That restraining order shyt is bs! Nobody convicted of domestic can possess a firearm in US. I wish they would tell it correctly

  • @queenoftheworld1 June 28, 2024

Although it won’t keep them from getting guns anyway.

  • I go back and forth on this one. Where im at now is:
If you have ever used a gun in a crime, lifetime ban.
Violent crime, no gun, 10 year ban after you serve your prison/probation sentence and dont catch any new charges.
Non violent crime, no ban after you serve your prison/ probation sentence.

  • @dalekehrer2421 June 28, 2024

Bad decision when the restraining order is based on unproven testimony.

  • @gregcurl7367 June 28, 2024

Really, thought they would have had fed-ex deliver bump stocks to all!!

The SCOTUS has exhausted its purpose to interpret the U.S. Constitution. They make decisions which they then reverse themselves several years later. They are obviously (for the most part but not entirely) a collection of political hacks. How can 9 people interpret the meaning of a document written with a quill on parchment which was authored decades ago and everyone who participated in its authorship has long since died. The mere effort of using an almost ancient document in a modern society is a colossal waste of time and money. It is past time to modernize the Constitution using a total re-write and to abolish the SCOTUS in its current form. WE THE PEOPLE should elect justices (one from each state and territory) for ONE five year term and no successive terms. While at it, put an age limit on those justices, no older than 65 at the time they are elected

  • If you can't be trusted with a gun you shouldn't be trusted to be in public! All gun laws are infringement!

  • @marktrujillo2150 June 28, 2024

Stupid law a domestic is not a felony . And the 2nd amendment doesn't recognize it ! What this law does is make outlaws out of people that aren't !?

  • @19ate4 June 28, 2024

This is the last free nation on earth and it’s slowly being eroded by people scamming you

“The conquistadors would get the chief of a tribe, really drunk and explain to him that these polish chains are the Pinnacle of sovereignty and wants to slave shackles with firmly into place on this chieftains, he was led away to die in a mill”

The people that want to protect you from the boggy man will tell you anything so they can put those chains firmly onto you. Either physically or mentally

  • @stephenfulton5385 June 28, 2024

Even the massively conservative gun supporting SCOTUS we have today agreescthat the right to bear arms is not absolute. So everyone that runs around saying "shall not be infringed" as if it were an absolute is just wrong.

  • @kurtgriffin4163 June 28, 2024

    all gun laws are unconstitutional

  • @eyezlikeydrums June 28, 2024

Make it make sense. The firearm isn't the problem, it's the abuser. An abuser can and will use anything available, including a lamp, knife, stick, tool, stone/brick, or their bare hands to abuse another. Just one of a hundred plus dumb decisions and laws in place that make absolutely zero sense. Besides, you're not stopping anyone from owning firearms if they want to anyways, legally or not. The law hasn't and will not stop a nutjob abuser. The law is about as effective as a "restraining order" to a nutjob abuser. Logic, Charles Manson, a certifiable nutjob, killed no one and never let out of prison BUT John Hinckley Jr. shoots several, paralyzes and kills another (Brady's ruled homicide 30+ years later because of injuries), while shooting and trying to assassinate the President of the United States… and was still released from prison. The President!!! Make it make sense.

  • @JoeStill-un9gp June 28, 2024

You have to be a convicted felon to have your firearms rights taken away. This is a misdemeanor, what a bunch of 💩

  • @Noneya4200 June 28, 2024

I don't know why people just don't say there's more of us we'll do whatever we want

  • @lunaticgaming7967 June 28, 2024

    Shall NOT be infringed…..

  • @justing6594 June 28, 2024

So basically your a felon. Without bein a felon. But non violent felons can purchase arms now?

  • @rcVastoLord June 28, 2024

    Good.

  • @19ate4 June 28, 2024

“One day you will wake up with the gates of hell wide open”.

Since the government took all the guns, who is going to standup to evil?

The same government that supports an institutions that is morally corrupt and a threat to humanity? Off course that institution is NATO.

We don’t have a GOP or union to stop this evil institution from spreading all over the world

  • @scottmahony4742 June 28, 2024

So, rights taken away without due process?
