When you think about the successful investors, you probably don’t think about senators right?
Well a study conducted in 2004, suggests that
U.S. senators have the stock-picking ability that would even make Warren Buffet jealous.
During the booming years of the 1990s, the companies senators’ picked
outperformed the market by 12% on average
while U.S. households underperformed by 1.4%,
Looking at the timing of cumulative returns, the senators also appeared to know exactly when to buy and sell their holdings.
The Senators would buy the shares just before the stock suddenly outperformed the market by more than 25%.
Surprisingly they would also sell the shares that have outperformed the market by 25%
just before the shares fell back to the average market’s performance.
Perhaps if you want to become a market wizard you should consider becoming a senator?
