YSL Young Thug RICO Trial: Georgia Supreme Court Rejects Request to Change Judge

In the ongoing YSL Young Thug RICO trial in Atlanta, the Supreme Court of Georgia has dismissed Deamonte Kendrick’s urgent plea to disqualify Fulton County Chief Judge Ural Glanville from overseeing his case. This decision solidifies Judge Glanville’s position for the foreseeable future.

Kendrick’s request stemmed from a meeting involving Judge Glanville, assistant district attorneys, a state’s witness, and the witness’s attorney. Kendrick’s legal team became aware of this meeting two days later, on June 10, prompting them to file a motion to recuse Judge Glanville, citing improper handling of the motion without external review.

In an unconventional legal move, Kendrick’s attorney bypassed the usual appellate channels, arguing that the case would circle back to Judge Glanville inevitably. The motion also demanded an unredacted transcript of the meeting.

However, the Supreme Court defended its stance on reserving original jurisdiction for exceptional circumstances, noting that Kendrick had not exhausted standard legal recourses, like filing a standalone mandamus petition in the superior court.

The court clarified that if such a petition were lodged, Chief Judge Glanville would be automatically disqualified, and another judge would take over. Therefore, Kendrick’s emergency petition for a writ of mandamus and a stay of proceedings was rejected. And so, the legal drama continues.
